Hey guys. Many of you who saw our previous post have called, messaged PM'd and even come in store recently to express your concerns, show your support and even offer assistance (we won't go into details here)
We just want to thank each and every one of you.

We have had long discussions with everyone involved and believe it is for the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff and customers that we need to close the cafe.

Our staff do not come to work to be abused for trying to use our bathroom (we are also the only one's cleaning and maintain it on top of being charged for a cleaner that does not exist 3 times a week), working in 40-degree heat while breathing more leaking gas than air, with constant service dropouts.

Our customers should be able to enjoy their meal in a nice, cool, relaxing space that doesn't have lights falling out of the ceiling or turning into mini sprinklers and no working power points to charge you laptop for that important meeting. Nor should you sweat more than Santa at the beach, waiting for us to resent the power for the 5th time so we can serve you.

We have done everything within our power to rectify these issues (and many, many more) as they came to light. But as tenants, can only do so much.

We attempted to open Saturday nights to offer and alternative for those wanting to eat before heading out or grabbing a cuppa after dinner. We were only met with more abuse, dictation, access to basic necessities (bathroom) refused and constant complaints and false reports to authorities simply for existing.

Hot, sweaty, nauseous staff are also not always the happiest. Especially when they are on edge. This is certainly not the experience we wanted for our amazing customers. Un fortunately we have no control over the actions of other. For any genuine negative experiences, (including difficulty or refusal to use our bathroom), you may have recently had with us, we apologies. For those who posted fake negative reviews online, we simply ignored them, please do the same. Anyone with an actual concern would address it with us at the time, like adults.

The physical assault on staff and false police report were the final straw. We immediately stopped trading Saturday nights, sorry for the lack of notice.

The only option left was to put our foot down and say ENOUGH. No longer will we stand back and be walked all over. A few weeks ago, (after many months of requests for assistance or reimbursement), the owner gave us the option to leave while others were interested in the space. We accepted.

This is officially the last week the goats will be on wood street.

For the most part, our time here on Wood Street has been an exhausting pleasure.

The city is no-longer considered a safe, family friendly location by many and the view is far from picturesque. It's time to sip your signature brew at a cafe with a peaceful view.

All our signature recipes will be available in a few short weeks from a new cafe and functions room opening up at the harbor, with private bathrooms and baby change facilities available. It will also have separate vegan, vegetarian, GF, kids and seniors' menus as well as a kids play zone and mini cafe. Pet friendly outdoor dining will be available too so bring the whole family.

So, keep an eye out for updates online. We will post social media links etc here for you as they are received.

Best of luck to everyone and thanks so much for your support over the past few years. It has meant a lot.

PS We will be opening at 8:30 tomorrow morning, Friday 7/3/25 and no further bookings can be accepted. Thanks again.

Trading hours update......
After being physically ushered out of OUR COMMUNAL foyer whilst trying to use OUR BATHROOM facilities last fortnight, we made a hard decision. We will no longer be opening on Saturday nights.

We enjoy catching up with our regulars and welcoming new faces. Even those who just pop in for a chat when they see we are open at night. However, I will not continue to allow our wonderful staff and customers to be subjected to verbal (now physical) abuse, refusal of access of OUR facilities, belittling, degradation, deformation, and false allegations.

We have all been abused on the Saturdays night we have opened and constantly have authorities called on us simply for trading or having our furniture in our paid outdoor space (whilst requesting others do not use it or contribute towards the fees).

Worst of all, we (staff and customers) have been exposed to this unprofessional behavior for simply trying to use our own facilities that happen to be located within a communal area, behind an obstructed emergency fire exit without a functioning fire hose. How dare we. What a shame. We should be supporting each other in this economic climate, not trying to ruin a small family business for simply existing.

Please private message the page if you have had a similar experience during any of your visits or cancelled a function/booking in the past 12 months. All reports will continue to remain confidential; I have misplaced the original incident list some of you so kindly completed at the time.

Thanks to those who have continued to support us during this difficult time whilst we have been subjected to this, and other issues. I feel terrible that such a negative experienced occurred during your visit with us.

In the meantime, we will continue to trade Tues-Sat 7am-2pm (kitchen closing at 1:30pm) and Sunday 7am-12 noon (breakfast only - kitchen closing at 11am). Closed Mondays.

Thanks again

Morning everyone, things may take a little more time this morning as we have less staff in the kitchen. Rather than closing for the morning, we decided to stay open and serve you all the best we can.

I have taken time away to proudly watch our son graduate high school and begin the rest of his life. It’s one of many milestone moments in a childs life. As a mother, I treasure these moments and memories. To all the other parents with children graduating today, congratulations. It is as much your achievement as it is theirs. You have been working towards this day for the past 12yrs along side them.

From casual dishy to apprentice overnight. Congrats Jimmy, we are so proud of you and all your achievements ###
(As well as our unofficial son Reon and all the other graduates we have watched grow over the years).

If there are any issues this morning please reach out to me personally. We appreciate your ongoing support. See you soon.

Sorry guys our message about today didn’t post last night for some reason.

As we are a small family business, not a chain, we are unable to bring staff in from other locations.

We are short staffed at the moment, hence the varies trading hours, and are in the process of training new team members.

We would prefer to take the time to train new members and be able to deliver great food and service at reasonable prices, while still
Continuing to make all our menu items to order.

It’s great to see so many regular faces coming back each week, incl Saturday nights for a drink and quick bite with friends before going out. Sunday morning breakfast at the Goat has also become routine for a lot of people. We greatly appreciate your business and support. We would love to continue offering this diversity but do need the staff to continue.

We are still accepting resumes for both FOH and BOH (weekday and weekend staff incl juniors) and FOH supervisor. If your child is wanting to enter the workforce for the first time, learn new skills or earn their own money we are willing to give them a go.

Availability required for shifts is 6-2:30 weekdays and Saturday, 6:30-12:30 Sundays. We also rotate Saturday nights 7pm-1am (18+ only).
If you or anyone you know are looking for casual work that is a mackay resident, has current RSA and food safety certificate, please bring resumes in store or email [email protected].
Immediate start available for the right applicant.
While previous experience is desired for most positions, full training will be provided to all new members and no experience does not mean you won’t be considered for the position. If you would like more information, please feel free to drop me an email or come In and have a chat.

Thanks for your support, we hope to Welcome you again soon.
