Hey guys. Many of you who saw our previous post have called, messaged PM'd and even come in store recently to express your concerns, show your support and even offer assistance (we won't go into details here)
We just want to thank each and every one of you.
We have had long discussions with everyone involved and believe it is for the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff and customers that we need to close the cafe.
Our staff do not come to work to be abused for trying to use our bathroom (we are also the only one's cleaning and maintain it on top of being charged for a cleaner that does not exist 3 times a week), working in 40-degree heat while breathing more leaking gas than air, with constant service dropouts.
Our customers should be able to enjoy their meal in a nice, cool, relaxing space that doesn't have lights falling out of the ceiling or turning into mini sprinklers and no working power points to charge you laptop for that important meeting. Nor should you sweat more than Santa at the beach, waiting for us to resent the power for the 5th time so we can serve you.
We have done everything within our power to rectify these issues (and many, many more) as they came to light. But as tenants, can only do so much.
We attempted to open Saturday nights to offer and alternative for those wanting to eat before heading out or grabbing a cuppa after dinner. We were only met with more abuse, dictation, access to basic necessities (bathroom) refused and constant complaints and false reports to authorities simply for existing.
Hot, sweaty, nauseous staff are also not always the happiest. Especially when they are on edge. This is certainly not the experience we wanted for our amazing customers. Un fortunately we have no control over the actions of other. For any genuine negative experiences, (including difficulty or refusal to use our bathroom), you may have recently had with us, we apologies. For those who posted fake negative reviews online, we simply ignored them, please do the same. Anyone with an actual concern would address it with us at the time, like adults.
The physical assault on staff and false police report were the final straw. We immediately stopped trading Saturday nights, sorry for the lack of notice.
The only option left was to put our foot down and say ENOUGH. No longer will we stand back and be walked all over. A few weeks ago, (after many months of requests for assistance or reimbursement), the owner gave us the option to leave while others were interested in the space. We accepted.
This is officially the last week the goats will be on wood street.
For the most part, our time here on Wood Street has been an exhausting pleasure.
The city is no-longer considered a safe, family friendly location by many and the view is far from picturesque. It's time to sip your signature brew at a cafe with a peaceful view.
All our signature recipes will be available in a few short weeks from a new cafe and functions room opening up at the harbor, with private bathrooms and baby change facilities available. It will also have separate vegan, vegetarian, GF, kids and seniors' menus as well as a kids play zone and mini cafe. Pet friendly outdoor dining will be available too so bring the whole family.
So, keep an eye out for updates online. We will post social media links etc here for you as they are received.
Best of luck to everyone and thanks so much for your support over the past few years. It has meant a lot.
PS We will be opening at 8:30 tomorrow morning, Friday 7/3/25 and no further bookings can be accepted. Thanks again.
