Hi Everyone,
As some of you may know, there has been an ongoing conflict affecting our home country, Tigray, the northern state of Ethiopia for 20 months. Tigray is home to approximately 7 million people made up of the Tigrayan, Kunama, and Irob ethnic groups and is where the majority of our extended family reside. The people of Tigray have been subjugated to the most horrific forms of violence and a long list of human rights abuses by the Ethiopian and Eritrean federal governments. Hospitals, schools, farms, factories, religious institutes, homes, and public infrastructure have been targeted, causing the state collapse and a wide-scale famine, affecting most if not all of the population. On top of this, foreign aid has continuously been restricted by the Ethiopian government, causing millions to starve. The death toll has now reached 500,000 people with more and more dying every day. Many members of the Tigrayan community in Perth and across Australia (including us) have been greatly affected by the war especially given that we can't communicate with loved ones due to the power and communication blackout for almost two years.
Over the last couple of months, we have received the devastating news of the passing of 2 of our immediate family members, this in conjunction with the overwhelming stress the war has caused us in the last 20 months and the impacts of COVID, we have made the decision to close Injera House permanently with a heavy heart. This was not an easy decision, but we do not have the capacity to continue the business at this moment in time.
We want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years. Special thanks to our regular customers who have made it possible for the business to survive for the last 7 years. We have met many different individuals and made lifelong friends as well as memories that we will cherish forever.
Sincerely,
Injera House Team
Getachew, Liya and Binyam
