Coffee harvests vary around the world and June is an interesting month on the calendar.

In Colombia, the mitaca harvest runs through June and July, offering a smaller mid year crop with bright, balanced flavours. In Kenya, the 'fly crop' also comes in June - July, giving juicy, fruit-forward cups with sparkling citrus and berry notes. These seasonal timings ensure that when the beans land at Modus locations in Perth, they’re at peak freshness and flavour.

Mr. Bekele Gemeda cultivates heirloom Ethiopian varieties on 9.5 hectares in Worka, Yirgacheffe, farming alongside his children and two married sons. In a region where coffees are often blended by cooperatives, this single-producer lot is kept separate to showcase exceptional quality and care.

This washed Grade 1 Yirgacheffe is handpicked, fully washed, and carefully dried at elevations between 1,780–2,100 meters. The result is a clean, fruit-forward cup with jammy peach, fresh stone fruit, mellow caramel, and a lively malic acidity, reflecting Mr. Bekele’s patience and dedication at every stage.
