We first got into birding six or seven years ago after finding a pair of second-hand binoculars in Balingup. We have family down that way with a bush block on the Blackwood River, a portion of which intersects the Bibbulman track, where an abundance of bird and bee attracting native flora and fauna line the banks, inviting so many creatures to call this precious part of WA home and making it an entirely perfect foray into bird watching. We recall having conversations on biodiversity, invasive species and the concept of ‘natural hotspots’ like “WOW how clever and funny are birds in their natural habitat, in abundance and undisturbed by people?!” Double WOW - if you can take a little canoe out with a doobie and witness wildlife from an entirely different perspective to that of being on land…

Years later, it is almost cruel getting back into birding in the city. Alas, a ripper of a bird watching spot is Reabold Hill, named after two white guys that “contributed significantly to the development of the area”* despite archaeological evidence showing that it’s rightful owners have been living on the Swan Coastal Plain for over 40 000 years, don’t let the uncreative name or sad history deter you from visiting this central, well protected and expansive native parkland

We had a lot of fun putting this one together, were many birds actually spotted? Ahhh… tune in to find out ~ the full field guide to birding drops tomorrow, 4.20 AWST 🍃🦜

We’re grateful to watch birds on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar

We’re building Plant Playground 2.0 and we pretty please want You involved 🤝 follow along as we reignite our mission to create meaningful ways to connect to nature ~ it’s going to be different, more raw and real and more connected to plant medicine than ever before 💚

The short of it 👆
The winding ins and outs of it 👇

It’s been over 3 months since we’ve been in community in Ossy Park and we miss You and our lil sanctuary more than words can say. We’ve been busy picking ourselves up out of a dark hole and making peace with what’s happened.

Lately we’ve been having conversations that sound less like “how could this happen?!” And more like “hey, when in life, ever, do you genuinely just get to have a second crack?”

Funnily when you start to allow a perspective shift, things, people, places and nature in particular start to reveal news ways of thinking and doing - new pathways. It’s like the ‘getting on’ of it, the putting one foot in front of the other - there’s a little bit of magic in it 🪄

We’re brining everything we loved about Plant Playground 1.0 with us - the local collaboration - the plant culture - connection through music - healing through plant medicine - COMMUNITY experiences

We’re letting go of certain things that weren’t serving us so we can serve You better. Stay tuned for exactly what’s in and what’s out. AND where we’re moving to next (yup we’re on that new location hunt)

We’ve rebuilt a level of trust in our dream of a better way to do business, serve our community and live in our values - please keep following us if any of that vibes with you. And let us know in the comments anything that SIMPLY MUST be included in PP 2.0?

Here’s us 6 hrs before the fire. My brain can’t compute that this is the same day as the most devastating thing that’s ever happened to us. We’re both so heart broken and genuinely don’t know what to do. We’re very very grateful for all of the support we’ve received today. Thank you it’s very much appreciated. Because of the beast that is small business we’ve been working through whilst our space sits in total loss. We have a commercial side of our business (plant design and plant care) that must go on, we have several local clients whose plants will die if we don’t go on. This is also our joy and we want to keep moving forwards with something, anything.

We don’t even know what rebuilding Plant Playground looks like but these messages of support give us hope.

Right now some breathing room is what’s required and as prideful girls we haven’t known how to ask for help… luckily we have the most amazing community including Rob & Kylie from who’ve been by our sides since day 0 at

They have created this Go Fund Me : Help Plant Playground Rebuild After a Devastating Fire (gofund.me/ca5450741) to which all we can say is thank you so much

We’ve also put the link in our bio just sharing it is helpful just a message or prayer is more than enough thank you Ossy Park it truly has become our home and this community is everything to us - we hope you know how much we’ve loved all these times over the last 4 years.

Last night our little sanctuary was destroyed by fire.

We’re relieved no one was hurt, that our neighbours are unaffected and that it’s been ruled non suspicious - undetermined electrical fault. We’re very grateful to the emergency response team and our local firies who have worked through the night and have been so supportive and kind.

We’re completely devastated at the loss and just the shear amount of work in front of us. These photos are from Saturday and to see Plant Playground now is just no words

We’re heartbroken for the four beautiful small businesses that call Plant Playground home

We have contents insurance but no business income protection etc. so we’re just trying to work out how to move forward so for now we’re closed until we can make a plan. Thank you

Pic from 3 years ago enjoying some booch in the sun ☀️

Plant Playground is owned & operated by us girls, Alex (but everyone calls her 😆) and Sasha (on the left) 👋

We’re business partners & life partners. So to us, in a way Plant Playground is our baby 🥹 And we’re freaking stoked to have our lil biz turn 4 this week! Thank you all so much for the many ways you’ve supported us over the years, it really does take a village 🫶

Anyway, not sure what’s gotten into me, as I’ve kept our socials all Plants and nothing Personal up until now… I’m starting to think maybe you want to hear more from us 🤔 maybe not… there may very well be enough of this s**t on the internet ahah
