Tomorrow the world celebrates the most inclusive Commonwealth Games in history.
Juju is still waiting for hers.
She is a 22 year old para-athlete with autism. She is asking to compete at State and National competitions in Australia, with the carer she needs in order to understand what is being asked of her. She is not asking to go to Glasgow.
At the last two Australian national championships, Juju was denied the carer support she needs to compete. We are pursuing this through the proper legal channels, to establish a clear precedent so that no athlete is left in this position again.
Inclusion cannot be something that only happens to other people, on television, once every four years.
One day left. Please add your name tonight, and share this with someone who believes in a fair go.

Juju is not competing at the Commonwealth Games. We have never asked for that, and this campaign is not about international selection.

Glasgow matters to us because in 2 days the world will celebrate the most inclusive Games in history. We are asking for that same inclusion at home, at Juju’s level.
That is all. That is the ask.

Juju has autism. She needs information given to her in specific language she can understand. Officials are not trained to communicate this way, so without her carer to interpret what is being asked of her, she cannot follow instructions or take part safely. Her carer is not an advantage. Her carer is how Juju understands what is happening at all.

Juju is not competing at the Commonwealth Games, she will never qualify at an international level in Athletics. This campaign is not asking for that. Glasgow matters because in 5 days the world will celebrate the most inclusive Games in history. Juju is asking for that same inclusion at her own level, at home, in Australian competition, where she has earned her place.

This started with one athlete. It has become something much bigger.
Teachers, parents, athletes and allies have added their names, all saying the same thing: every athlete deserves the support they need to compete.

In Juju’s words.
“I like running. Running makes me happy. I need my carer with me. I want to run.”

This is bigger than one race. It’s about every athlete, and those who come after. They deserve a fair start too.

That’s why Juju keeps going, and why we do.
