๐Ÿ BIKES OR HORSES ๐ŸŽ

Or both? There are arguments to be said for both sides of the arena, but only one of the above is a living creature that is able to warn you of the danger in your path before you see it for yourself.

๐Ÿฎ The Cattle of Cheela Plains ๐Ÿฎ

Cheela Plains Station are custodians of an ecosystem that requires careful rest of the pasture.

This means that herds of cattle are constantly moved to fresh pasture across the station's 188 000 hectares, and may often be kilometres away from the campground ๐Ÿ•

Our sister project is up and running!

So what is AG Academy?

It brings education about primary industry into primary schools.

It has 3 parts:
1. Teacher resources and student activities about WA farming all set to go.
2. Incursion / Excursion with a Agribusiness professional to demonstrate the different careers within Agriculture.
3. Augmented Reality experiences bring our journal to life as students shear sheep, milk a cow and sort fruit.

Know of a school who would love this program?

Today is WA day!

Did you know that it was initially called "Foundation Day"?

The name was derived from the foundation of the Swan River Colony in 1829.

Three years later the colony became "Western Australia"!

Captain James Stirling surveyed the land prior to settlement. He noted the soil was fertile and there was access to fresh water.

However, upon colonisation, the settlers discovered that the land was unfit for agriculture.

The soils were too sandy and had low water retention capabilities.

In addition, little was known about the region in terms of climate, topography and soil characteristics. Many people were starving.

Western Australian agriculture has come a long way since then and now has amazing production industries across many commodities that get exported all the way around the world!

Happy World Milk Day! ๐ŸŒŽ ๐Ÿฎ

Its Thursdairy on a Tuesgrain which is a great crossover to celebrate the First of June being World Milk Day!

World Milk Day was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 2001 to recognize the importance of milk as a global food.

This years theme will focusโ€™ on Sustainability in the dairy sector with messages around the environment, nutrition and socio-economics.

We have covered earlier this year here on FYCT on how WA is evolving and leading the way to create a more sustainable dairy sector for the state.

As we share our love for milk on World Milk Day 2021, lets all connect with others and invite them to join the celebration of the goodness that milk represents.

From all of the people who produce milk to all the people that enjoy it in our communities, schools and homes, lets all play our part to keep or WA Dairy industry strong!!!!

In recent years, the dwindling population of wild bees has been well publicised due to their important role as pollinators in the world's ecosystems and in agriculture.

As featured by our good friends at Farm Weekly, down at the Western Australia College of Agriculture (WACOA) in Denmark, Western Australia, students are doing their bit to help the world's declining bee populations by building and revitalising old hives.

As part of the Certificate II in Agriculture Bee course, Year 11 and 12 students learn how to open and re-assemble a beehive, carry out routine bee husbandry, assemble and maintain beekeeping components and extract and bottle honey.

When the college upgraded its dairy facility about five years ago, its beekeeping enterprise moved into an old shed that had previously been used for pasteurising milk.

If you have ever thought of owning a new bee hive or have an old or unused hive that you would like refurbished?

Well you can contact WACOA on 9848 0200 to discuss further!
