Thank you WA.
We have now achieved something remarkable.
Something the critics and the east-coast commentators said Western Australians could never do.
Without the virus in the community, or any restrictions in place, 90 per cent of eligible Western Australians have now received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
And this is for everyone that is currently eligible - 12 years of age and above.
This means we are absolutely confident we will have the double dose vaccination rate we need for our Safe Transition Plan to be implemented from February 5.
But we have to remember, this isn’t the finish line - we need to have more people come forward and roll up for WA in the regions.
We want to get more young Western Australians vaccinated, especially before school goes back next year, including those aged 5-11 years of age.
We also need everyone to get their third dose, as soon as they are eligible, which is five months after your second dose.
The evidence from over east is clear – when borders are eased, COVID will inevitably follow.
But what is also clear is that when it does arrive in Western Australia, you must be vaccinated.
Being vaccinated reduces the likelihood of you catching or spreading the disease.
And if you do catch it, it will be far less severe.
It means you are less likely to wind up in hospital, or on a ventilator.
Time and time again across this pandemic, the vast majority of Western Australians have proven that they will do the right thing for their fellow citizens.
It makes me proud to be a Western Australian.
