G'day legends. Those of you who know me well, know permaculture has been my passion for many years, to live amongst a food forest my dream.
However, with the rising cost of living and the housing crisis deepening, I find myself with a bit of a dilemma, we have been given a move out date at our current rental, and we're facing homelessness.
So, I've launched a crowdfunding campaign as a last push to acquire some land, build a modest home and finally grow my food forest, one that can feed my family, and give back to the community.
With great humility and a strong dose of anxiety, I'm asking: if you're willing, please help me spread this campaign far and wide.

Much love and gratitude, Brett and family.

Hi, I’m Brett, father of 4 and step-father to 1—and for about 18 years now, I’ve held on to a vision: to create a stable home for my family and grow a food forest that doesn’t just feed us, but gives back to others. Nature is my passion, with qualifications in Conservation & Land management ...

"What is regenerative agriculture then?

It is a mindset that we cannot control nature or separate ourselves from it.
It’s a belief that we can choose to manage the landscape regeneratively rather than degeneratively.
It’s a belief that we aren’t going to engineer a solution better than what mother nature figured out millions of years ago.
It’s a belief that using synthetic chemicals and fertilizer and industrializing our meat production is a choice, not a necessity.
It’s a belief that fertillicide should be used sparingly as a last resort, not the first tools we reach for.
It’s a humbleness to accept that we aren’t clever enough to outsmart mother nature.
It’s a realization that while we may win some battles, we will ultimately lose our current war against diversity on the landscape.
Ultimately, it’s a belief that we are one with the earth, and we have a responsibility to grow our food with tools that enable us to live in harmony with nature for the sake of future generations."

Photo by Bence Balla-Schottner on Unsplash There has been an interesting debate recently in response to some articles written by Dr. Jaqueline Rowarth, a soil scientist from New Zealand. For background, see The demonization of N and Nutrient claims are crap! In the first article, Dr. Rowarth argues....

Planted out a heap of Arrowroot plants today, mulched them in and fixed up the overflow with rocks. That overflow will now flow into another Swale below, which we are digging out now. The Arrowroot will help to stop any washout and catch nutrients, aswel as be a substitute for potato and the leaves for spinach. It will also act as a bit of a barrier for wildlife once it gets a bit taller. Pics of the new Swale to come later. 😊

Watermelon, Rockmelon and Pumpkin taking over! Haha. There's heaps of pumpkins coming through, and stacks of native bees in there, hopefully we get a good harvest out of it. 😊

Bit of a shower today, and the Swale has water in it again! The mulch will have soaked up a nice amount, so the plants will have water for some time. Also the watermelon patch is growing out of control! 4 melons in there at the moment, with more to come. 😊

G'day folks. I've been silent for a long while now as life throws curve balls at me. But we've been hard at work on dads property, where Danny and Myself are now living, with my daughter and Dad. The tents are mine and Dan's homes for the time being, and dad lives in the storage containers. First Swale has been dug out with the excavator, which you can hear dad working on in the video. We planted it out with some fruit trees and Goji berries, and have just mulched it over with woodchips. With the recent rains it's proven it holds water really well and drains quite slowly. Also in the video you can see where the house will go, and from there we have plans for more swales and a big market garden, which will eventually surround the house. Then we will design and work outwards from there. Over time I will do my best to keep progress updated here, as this property will now be the base for any future Uplift - Urban Permaculture business. Stay safe out there everyone, and happy gardening. 😊

G'day everyone. I've been rather quiet during this whole Covid period, so I apologise for that. Its been partly because I was unable to work, and partly because I've not been getting any work, and partly because I have a new baby in the house. But that's life sometimes 😊

Here's some recent pictures of my yard, its slowly coming along, the soil has vastly improved over the year and I've had a good harvest over the winter season, also I've finally started a small shade house, so I'll be able to manage my seedlings a lot better now. At the moment they tend to cover my patio, and it seems some critters have taken a liking to digging little sleeping holes in the trays, destroying a lot of the seedlings. But we live and we learn. 😊 Hope you enjoy, and stay safe out there.
