The Coffee Bean Belt...

Coffee grows in a vast region know as the bean belt. The term seems fitting as the areas wraps around the globe like a belt along the equator. You’ll find coffee bean growers just above and just below the equatorial zone. There are many regions and origins within the coffee bean belt. The terms region and origin refer to where the plant is grown in the world and within which country. Each region within the coffee bean belt has a unique altitude, climate, and soil conditions. Another factor is processing traditions. The coffee bean belt provides optimal growing conditions for the coffee plants to thrive. These areas tend to be both tropical and mountainous in nature. Warm temperatures, high altitudes and heavy rainfall is the ultimate trifecta for producing the coffee plants and beans we love!

The History of Espresso Coffee...

The espresso was invented in Venice, Italy by businessman Luigi Bezzera in the early 20th Century. He began experimenting with a goal of reducing the time it was taking to brew his coffee. As the owner of a manufacturing business in 1903 he began trialing by adding steam pressure to the machine to cut down the brewing time and also create a much stronger drink. Enter Desidero Pavoni in 1905 who purchased part of the machine rights and almost immediately Pavoni’s name became associated with the espresso. In 1906 Bezzera and Pavoni launched the “Ideale” at the Milan Fair. Fast forward to 1938 and Achilles Gaggia, an inventor, created the machine that increased the steam pressure from 1.5-2 atmospheres to 8-10 atmospheres. This incredible leap in the development of the espresso machine introduced the modern world to the machine we use and love today.
