We are looking for a lively and courteous café employee who believes that gracious and friendly customer service and good food should always go together.
You will greet customers, answer their questions about our menu and products, take orders and accept payments and provide table service.
You will also maintain a clean workspace and dining area, update displays (if you have a flair for chalkboards, we are excited), and be prepared to always improve your working knowledge of food and beverage quality controls, preparation, and presentation.
Kayak Fundy Café offers a menu of fresh and healthy food all prepared on site with as many local ingredients as possible. Most of our guests are kayakers and hikers (and locals) who wish to relax in a homey, natural environment – on the water and close to the gates of Fundy National Park.
To work with us you need to be committed to providing our guests with fresh, beautiful food, while offering friendly and polite service to our guests. Our guests are wonderful 99% of the time. The other 1% just proves the world isn’t perfect.
Special note: Staff also earn tips and will be provided free housing on-site throughout the term of employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Welcoming customers, informing them about specials or new items, answering questions, accepting orders and payments, and providing table service.
• Helping to prepare foods, such as sandwiches, salads, or baked goods, brewing coffee and tea, and serving items to customers.
• Cleaning work and dining areas, emptying trash, and sanitizing/washing dishes and utensils.
• Updating signage and displays to attract customers.
• Adhering to food and beverage safety regulations and quality controls.
SAFETY:
• Know and follow all Food Safe Guidelines (we will provide training programs if necessary).
• Know and follow all service standards according to the Alcohol and Safety Program “Responsible Beverage” (we will provide training programs if necessary).
• Maintain a high standard of hygiene throughout the kitchen and prep room, as well as personally.
• Follow and exemplify all current Provincial and company health guidelines including COVID policies and procedures
Other
• Act as a representative of Kayak Fundy and Kayak Fundy Café when working in the community.
• Always maintain a friendly and professional demeanour.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal person for this position will have the following:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in food and beverage preparation or customer service preferred.
• Bilingualism (French/English) is absolutely an asset, but dedication and enthusiasm ¬– and a willingness to try to speak some French (or English) – is more important.
• Training and willingness to continue learning about food and beverage preparation.
• FoodSafe Level 1 (we can provide after hiring if needed)
MUST BE:
• Be flexible with work scheduling and be willing to adapt to schedule changes to support the team, availability to work around peak hours, including nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
• Be adaptable, able to follow directions and work as a team.
