Owned and operated by the Higgins family, this is the fourth generation of European trained bakers - bringing a touch of Europe to Central Ontario. Originally founded by Josef and Sigrid Krautgartner, the bakery first opened in November of 1983. The couple left a very successful bakery in Germany in order to start a new life in Canada with their children Andrea and Ines. Over the years, Sigrid's has an earned great reputation and is well known thanks to all its loyal and new customers. Their daughter Andrea Higgins took over on July 1st, 2004. She started her training in Bundesfachschule Germany, as well in Hannover and Wolfenbuettel and enjoys baking to this day. She met her husband Brian a few months after living in Canada and now has three children. Tim, the oldest is the main salesperson and GM of the bakery, Andrea's younger son Patrick is now working full time baking those delicious treats you crave so much! Jessica the youngest and only daughter, is the next aspiring apprentice, learning more of the trade every day.
