It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Laurie Wickens.
Laurie was more than a witness to the 1967 S**g Harbour UFO Incident, he was a storyteller, ambassador, and passionate steward of one of Nova Scotia’s most fascinating mysteries. As one of the first people to report the object that crashed into the waters off S**g Harbour on October 4, 1967, his eyewitness account became the foundation of a story that continues to captivate visitors from around the world.
As President of the S**g Harbour UFO Incident Society, Laurie dedicated countless hours to preserving the history of the incident and welcoming those who came to learn more. Whether you met him at the UFO Centre, heard him speak at the annual UFO Festival, or simply shared a conversation, you were met with enthusiasm, passion, and a genuine love for his community and the stories he shared.
Laurie’s passion helped put S**g Harbour on the map as one of the world’s most intriguing unsolved UFO cases, inspiring curiosity and bringing visitors to our corner of Nova Scotia for decades.
On behalf of the Municipality of Barrington, we extend our sincere condolences to Laurie’s family, friends, and everyone at the S**g Harbour UFO Incident Society.
Thank you, Laurie, for sharing your story, preserving our history, and welcoming the world to S**g Harbour. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations of visitors. We will miss you.
