Today we worked sixteen hours — maintain the espresso machine, sanitize the ice maker, weekly deep clean, getting ready for summer.
Nothing dramatic. No grand story to tell.
Just six years ago, on an ordinary morning, H coffee opened its doors.
And somehow, six years have passed.
Looking back at these 2,190 days, we’ve made countless cups of coffee, washed endless dishes, mopped the floors more times than we can remember, cleaned the washrooms over and over again. Our fingers crack from being in water all day. Our knees ache from standing too long. It would be a lie to say it hasn’t been hard — the evenings when our backs hurt so much we could barely stand straight, the late nights after everyone left when we sat alone listening to music in silence, the winters spent staring at the books for a very long time because the numbers just didn’t work.
But strangely, every time it felt impossible to keep going, something small would happen.
Like the regulars who walk in every morning and already know their order, always encouraging us. Like the elderly couple who come every Wednesday for the same coffee. Like the people who show up for Reading Day just to spend time together. Like the embroidery group that carried us through so many quiet days.
Those moments were like little pieces of sugar, slowly melting away the bitterness.
So for our sixth anniversary, we don’t want to give a big speech.
We just want to say this:
Thank you to everyone who has ever pushed open this door.
You were never just customers — you became part of the story.
And thank you to coffee itself — honest, forgiving, never pretending to be anything it’s not.
Is the future still long?
We don’t know.
Support local small businesses.
Don’t wait until they close down to say, “Oh, that’s so sad. I loved that place.”
Happy 6th Anniversary.
Even the hardest days were worth it.
