Brunch with Suzanne de Bussac

Every Saturday and Sunday, we fire up the irons and make some of the best Waffles, Frittatas and Huevos Rancheros this side of Bankview.

Wash it down with all you can drink Mimosas and you have yourself a great start to your day.

All the while, enjoy the musings of great local and not so local live music.

Admission by donation

Suzanne de Bussac presents a potpourri of piano music ranging in styles from Cabaret to Gospel, Classical to Chanson, Garage Jazz to Art Rock. Infused with hints of Nina, Ella, & Billie, and peppered with Poole, Czerny, Concone….maybe even Mozart, the cover song portion of the show promises to be whimsical and light of heart! These will be interwoven through a goodly dose of de Bussac’s eclectic original material including her most recent single “Secret Valentine”, and more from her forthcoming album “Liquids”.

Bryson Waind is a folk and country singer who was born and bred in Canada’s Niagara Region. He spent 15 vintages working in the wine industry, running tractors up and down the vineyard rows. Years on the farm gave him the opportunity to develop the genuine Canadian folk and country style that he plays today. On the guitar or mandolin you can hear the deep roots and love of home that are his trademarks. Now living in Calgary, his style remains the same and his songs still ring with the pride of place, but also, with a traveller’s thirst which speaks to the maturity and craftsmanship of his songwriting. Bryson Waind and his songs stand out because of their honesty and loyalty to folk principles. They will gather you in, and take you all the way home.

It has been 5 years since we opened and can't express the gratitude that I have for everyone who has performed here, been a guest here and otherwise contributed to this great space we have created. I have been experiencing some health issues and working on a new project that will take all my attention. So… I am looking for someone or better yet, a small group of people that would like to step in and take some or all of The Asylum to the next level. There is a lot going on here and each component could be it's own project. I would also prefer this to be an investment opportunity for someone to build something for themselves in their own vision.

Venue: There is a capacity 71 room with grand piano, full backline, sound system, lights, etc. We regularly host international artists, have a regular brunch Saturday and Sunday, open mic on Sunday and host matinee performances by other teaching studios or workshops.

Academy: The original plan for this space was to be exclusively a teaching studio with only a handful of shows. There are 2 rooms with acoustic pianos that are suitable for private lessons or < 3 person groups and a large room that can fit 20 students with instruments. Currently, we offer lessons in guitar, piano and voice.

Kitchen and bar: There are limitations to the kitchen, but we have built a menu that is diverse and have had success on delivery platforms and works well to service the shows and students coming in for classes. It is also a good central space to offer retail food products and has display coolers.

Food manufacturing: We have all the gear and developed the processes to efficiently produce and package Pierogi, Gnocchi, hot sauce and a variety of other products incuding grab ’n go meals. The equipment is verstile and adaptable to other products. Our line has been exclusively gluten free.

Please get in touch if you are interested in the project or part thereof and we can discuss this further. 403 969 7257 [email protected]

Icarus III Improvising Trio
ASYLUMforART.ca | 2505 14 St SW | (403) 969-7257

Icarus 3 is an improvising trio composed of Jeremy Gignoux (violin/viola), Keith Rodger (double bass), and Robin Tufts (drums, percussion). They created their original repertoire in an unusual and experimental way: with the help of the clown. Under the guidance of clown performer and educator Jacqueline Russell, they explored their inner clowns which gave birth to musical compositions and improvisation games that display a joyful and wild creative energy.

Their music takes in all of their musical past, from folk, classical, country, jazz, or other influences and exhibits theatrical elements such as character, narrative, and a lot of open improvisation.
