Behind the Business — Part 2.

The idea was born during COVID isolation. A year and a half of planning and research.
February 2024 — we leased the space. Six months of rebuilding everything from the ground up. August 1st 2024 — Heliopolis reopened. And in June 2026 we got a fresh new interior.

There’s a reason we chose this name...
Heliopolis. City of the Sun. The original place of learning in the ancient world — where philosophers, artists and polymaths from everywhere came to study, think and create.
That’s the spirit we brought to Calgary.

We get asked this a lot — so we sat down and just talked about it honestly. 🥃
What was missing in Calgary? Why did we actually do this?

Calgary is a beautiful, diverse city — but we kept asking ourselves where people from all these different cultures could actually come together, share stories, and feel safe doing it.
The idea didn’t come overnight. It came out of isolation — when COVID made everyone realize how much we needed real spaces to connect again. What started as a conversation turned into a year and a half of research, planning, and figuring out what this place actually needed to be.
We opened in February 2024. Six months later, we rebuilt it into what it is today — and reopened August 1st, 2024.

This is why Heliopolis exists. Not just to serve a drink. To give Calgary a place to actually connect.
