Just wanted to post an update on Mike....

Thought we would update with a little Christmas Spirit.
Mike has bounced back from his craneoplasty done a week and a half ago.
He has been up walking, with a walker from his bed, off the unit, to the elevators and back. He is also doing some coordination work with the support of the parallel bars. Speech therapy is helping, he is relearning to pronounce his words, and to coordinate getting his air supply behind his speech.
Mike's been beginning to enjoy more homemade foods (primarily soups and pasta) and continues to regain the control of his utensils, which is awesome.
His trach site continues to heal very well, and he should have his 24 staples removed either tommorrow or Thursday in the back of his head.
We are so greatful for your continued prayers and love and support. 🙏 ❤️🙏

Overall Mike has been getting stronger, altho he has suffered a few setbacks since the last update, he keeps fighting back even stronger.
Physio has had him up at the parallel bars today, 10 steps by his own strength, only having his feet directed in the right direction and then repeated 3 more times. 💪💪💪💪
His trach had been uncorked/opened for a while since the last update as he was struggling again with his secretions and breathing, but he has been corked again for a couple of days now, so far so good!
Neuro surgeon has been consulted again. He has some swelling in his neck. A few more tests this week to come, so the surgeon can make some more decisions on Mike's care plan.
We are both very greatful for the continued Prayers, Good Vibes, and frequent check ins.
The donations on the GoFundMe page have been overwhelming....Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
Love you All 💙💙💙

Time to update you all, as some of you have heard rumors, or are just plain wondering what the heck is going on?!
We, Mike and I, have been forced to make a difficult decision. As you are aware, we had a pipe burst in the Dining Room at the beginning of January this year. We have just signed off in the past week on the final completion of the repairs.
We have always been over insured. Above a basic policy, we carried a policy for loss of income and another for loss of wages. Bottom line, insurance is not paying out even enough to cover the debt which has occurred since we have been closed (hydro, utilities and such)
In the past few weeks, as the building has come to completion, we have been presented with someone who wanted to take over our building and our lease. Despite all the emotions that we feel about our decision, we have made the difficult decision to let Curly Kale Eatery close.
We appreciate all of the support over the 6 years, through Covid Pandemic, through our wacky at times "Seasonal Menu" (early days).
We have appreciated YOU, our guests, who have become friends. Our Staff, who have become family. Our partnership with Nick of Magpie's Bakery, this man can seriously do anything! We look forward to supporting his future endeavors, as should you all!
The words "Thank you for your support" now and over the years, doesn't seem just. Please know that from the bottom of our Hearts, we would have never made Curly Kale Eatery the success it was prior to the Pandemic, or the Strength we were throughout the Pandemic without each and everyone of you. Whether you were a daily, weekly, monthly or summertime 'regular', we always loved catching up! We have loved being witness to countless 1st Dates; Celebratory breakfasts and lunches; being warned of absences due to vacations so we wouldn't worry, to hearing of all the adventures had; to hearing of engagements and being fortunate to cater a few of those nuptials; to watching baby bumps grow, then gush over the cute babes when you brought them in, to have watched all your Babes growing up, now toddlers, school-age Littles.
We have been so Honored to have you in our Dining room-our 2nd Home 💚

So an update on our renovation progress. We are waiting patiently on trades to start coming in and getting the restaurant back in order. The latest info we received was today and it was flooring to be installed late April.. which means we have a while yet. Sorry folks.. this is very frustrating to say the least.

So update. We had a burst pipe in the ceiling of the dining room, the restoration company is worried there is asbestos so we need to get that tested before work can be done. Saying that all the trades are very behind and according to our insurance adjuster it will probably take 1 to 2 months to get this fixed.
Thank you all for your patience!
Mike, Stacy and Curly Kale family!

Smoked chicken.. chicken from the farm store in yarrow, I brine it for 24 hours in water, brown sugar, salt, poultry seasoning and my own cayenne hot sauce. Then it's a slow smoke for 3 to 4 hours at 200 degrees.
