Ok, review number two. I obviously don't go out to eat enough to keep this super busy but the posts I do make will be very informative.

Hopyard on Gottingen St in Halifax. What a great atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Very simply priced menu and drinks. Most items on the menu are $8 and all beers on tap are $7. They have other useless drinks that don't interest me so check out the website to see what else they offer.... hopyard.ca.

My wife and I shared two vegan items on the menu and they are quite possibly two of the best things I've ever eaten. We had Louisiana Fried Brussel Sprouts (V, GF)
Creole Butter, Chicory Mayo, Spicy Peanuts, Hot Salt, Scallions and Popcorn Cauliflower (V, GF)
Crispy Cauliflower, Hot Butter, Parmesan Cheese, Garlic Sauce, Scallions. I probably liked the Cauliflower better because of the crunchy texture but honestly they were both amazing dishes that I actually want to go have again today. Great, great kitchen and I told our server to please let them know I said so.

Do yourself a favor and check out Hopyard. You will not be disappointed.

Finally, I have a restaurant to write about. My family went out for supper Saturday night to Montanas in the Dartmouth Crossing. Now I've had a couple other occasions at this restaurant and they were not memorable so my expectations were low to start.

When we walked into the restaurant it was only half full at about 6pm. The head hostess told us that the
"systems " were down and it was a 30-35 minute wait. While we waited for approximately 10 minutes, we listened to the immature hostess as she was quite unprofessional the way she spoke in front of the 10-12 people waiting for a table. Picture a half full restaurant with people lining up to get in, only being told there is a 30-35 minute wait. Add to that she didn't explain to everyone that the "systems" were down while there were tons of empty tables behind her.

We were seated by a hostess who seemed she was unaware that she is supposed to welcome us to the restaurant and tell us the name of the server who will be along shortly. The wait was a bit long but not too bad. We ordered lemon waters and entree's. Over 30 minutes later our food arrived. I truly believe they were understaffed in the front of the house.

Two of us ordered 7oz sirloin steak dinners medium rare, and the other orders were a Chipotle Firecracker burger and a Chicken Waffle Club sandwich. The sides were mashed potatoes, garden salad and fries. The four of us were very happy with our food and it was worth the wait. Steaks were cooked right, tender and juicy as well. Both sandwiches were delicious. Sides were great and the mashed were delish. Nice plates of food that we liked the look of when they came to the table. Next review I'll try to remember pics.

All in all, this was a visit that makes me want to go back again. They need to work out whatever problems they have in the front of the restaurant but the kitchen is doing good things.

I started this page to add another option for reviewing places to eat in Halifax/Dartmouth. I'm a French Culinary trained Chef and have 3 years experience from when I lived in Vancouver although I no longer work in the Industry. I have a tremendous passion for eating and cooking. I am a Foodie and love all foods. I will update this page after each and every time I eat out regardless of where it is or what it is.
