Well, it's time to update you on my current situation and tell you how this process has been. I hope you can read it, as it's a bit long... 🫣Just a few months after the Farmers Market fire, we got a business in downtown area. I asked many times if the hood was suitable for frying because my menu included items that needed to be fried. They always said yes until the day of signing, and I started asking question after question, just because I wanted to be sure, until I realized they were lying to me.
A few months ago, I rented a food truck from a well-known company in Calgary. They asked for an initial payment of $10,050. When my sister and I arrived to pick up the truck, the insurance price suddenly increased without prior notice. I decided to pay because I needed the truck, and we already had an inspection scheduled.
In short, they delivered a damaged truck and refused to offer a solution or refund my money. For the second time, someone of the same nationality was trying to lie to me and steal my money. Many people advised me to stay silent, saying it wasn't appropriate to speak publicly about another immigrant because I should be supportive. They said that as a woman, criticizing how some men think doing business with a woman means it's easy to take advantage of her or steal from her would be delicate and could offend others. But I firmly believe that loyalty shouldn't be based on race or gender, but on principles, honesty, and doing things right. I also believe we must stop normalizing dishonesty simply because people are afraid to speak out. At the same time, amidst all of this, I met incredible people. People who, despite having very busy schedules, took the time to help me, guide me, and make the necessary repairs and arrangements so I could move forward. And that kindness also deserves recognition and gratitude.
In the end, I got my money back because I wasn't going to let anyone steal money that, at this point in my life, means I can move forward. That's why I decided to move forward and buy my own food trailer. Because I'm a mother, an entrepreneur, and someone who refuses to give up. I know we're a little behind schedule, but with God's blessing, we'll be back soon… 🌮❤️
Thank you to everyone who has been concerned about us, for your messages, your patience, and your support. It means so much to my family and to this small business we've built with so much effort.❤️
