Well, it's time to update you on my current situation and tell you how this process has been. I hope you can read it, as it's a bit long... 🫣Just a few months after the Farmers Market fire, we got a business in downtown area. I asked many times if the hood was suitable for frying because my menu included items that needed to be fried. They always said yes until the day of signing, and I started asking question after question, just because I wanted to be sure, until I realized they were lying to me.
A few months ago, I rented a food truck from a well-known company in Calgary. They asked for an initial payment of $10,050. When my sister and I arrived to pick up the truck, the insurance price suddenly increased without prior notice. I decided to pay because I needed the truck, and we already had an inspection scheduled.
In short, they delivered a damaged truck and refused to offer a solution or refund my money. For the second time, someone of the same nationality was trying to lie to me and steal my money. Many people advised me to stay silent, saying it wasn't appropriate to speak publicly about another immigrant because I should be supportive. They said that as a woman, criticizing how some men think doing business with a woman means it's easy to take advantage of her or steal from her would be delicate and could offend others. But I firmly believe that loyalty shouldn't be based on race or gender, but on principles, honesty, and doing things right. I also believe we must stop normalizing dishonesty simply because people are afraid to speak out. At the same time, amidst all of this, I met incredible people. People who, despite having very busy schedules, took the time to help me, guide me, and make the necessary repairs and arrangements so I could move forward. And that kindness also deserves recognition and gratitude.
In the end, I got my money back because I wasn't going to let anyone steal money that, at this point in my life, means I can move forward. That's why I decided to move forward and buy my own food trailer. Because I'm a mother, an entrepreneur, and someone who refuses to give up. I know we're a little behind schedule, but with God's blessing, we'll be back soon… 🌮❤️
Thank you to everyone who has been concerned about us, for your messages, your patience, and your support. It means so much to my family and to this small business we've built with so much effort.❤️

Thank you for your support ❤️😭
We want to sincerely thank everyone who has been concerned about us 🙏
We had our inspection today. If anything needs to be corrected or improved, we'll have to go through a second inspection. Since this is the first time we've gone through this whole process with a food truck, I can't give you an exact reopening date yet.

We also spoke with Chelsea Bohnen Rach, one of the manager of the Grande Prairie Farmers Market , and they kindly agreed to let us set up in their parking lot at the old Farmers Market once we're ready. So you'll see us back in that area as soon as everything is finished 🙌
Thank you for continuing to support Jose's Mr. Taco 🌮❤️
We're working hard to be back as soon as possible! 🙏🙏

I’m sorry for being a bit quiet lately… but today I can finally say we’re starting to see some light.
After knocking on many doors and exploring different ways to come back, I’ve made an important decision: this year, we’re returning with a food truck.
Building a business is not easy. Costs are very high not just rent, but also all the equipment needed to pass inspections and on top of that, the banking system doesn’t always make things easier when you need support the most. But instead of discouraging me, this journey has made me stronger. It has pushed me to learn so many new things, step out of my comfort zone, and keep believing in this dream. Right now, I’m working on permits, courses, and everything required to come back the right way. You have no idea how excited I am to see you all again.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has supported me, encouraged me, and made me feel so loved. This community has never let us go, and that means everything to me.
If God allows, we will see each other again by the end of April or early May… and this time, we’re coming back stronger than ever.

This past weekend, we were at the Christmas show with our taco stand, making fresh tortillas and serving our tacos. We were truly amazed by how many of you came to visit and support us. Seeing your faces reminded us why we love this city so much. We’re working hard every day to recover. By the middle of this week, we’ll announce where our new kitchen will be for Skipthedishes and Turbo orders, and where you can pick up your food.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being with us during this difficult time. We’re rebuilding with strength and gratitude, and very soon, with your support, we’ll be back.

Lena.
