At ClearWater Farm, a project of the Ontario Water Centre, we engage in active learning with youth to inform and inspire a strong sense of place. We believe that a water-wise connection with the land is essential to regenerative farming and leads to sustainability and food security. Our Young Agri-preneurs grow fresh, healthy food, and support the economy. Our Georgina barn is being rebuilt to connect the community and our ClearWaterKids.org site is inspiring the wonder years generation.

Our Tiny Farmer Adventure Baskets are still available — and they’re waiting for your little farmer! 🌱🧺✨

Packed with seasonal veggies (or fruit!), colouring pages, stickers, crayons, and fun learning activities, these baskets are designed to make healthy food exciting, hands-on, and fun for kids ages 3-12 🥕🎨💚

Growcer Update 🌱

This week marks an exciting milestone at Clearwater Farm as we officially began planting our first seedlings! We’ve planted four varieties of lettuce — Five Star Mix, Rex, Monte Carlo, and Green Star — along with arugula, and we can’t wait to watch them grow. 💗

Hydroponic farming allows us to grow crops in a controlled indoor environment using a nutrient-rich water solution instead of soil. By carefully managing temperature, humidity, airflow, lighting, and nutrients, we’re able to create ideal growing conditions year-round while using less water and land space than traditional farming methods.

As we begin this journey, we’re learning more every day and are excited to share the process with our community. Seeing the very first seedlings go in feels like the start of something truly special for Clearwater Farm. 💚🌱

Why do our greenhouses look so different from one day to the next? 🌱💛

Yesterday was warm, sunny and 26°C! So our greenhouse roofs were opened much wider to help release heat and allow fresh air to circulate throughout the space.

Today, with temperatures dropping to 11°C, the greenhouse is much more closed to help retain warmth and protect the crops from cooler conditions.

Our greenhouse ventilation system is automated and set to specific temperature thresholds. 🌡️
Once the greenhouse reaches a certain temperature, the roofs automatically ventilate to help bring the temperature back down and maintain an optimal growing environment for the plants.

The system also measures wind speed, 💨💨which means the vents will stay more closed on very windy days to help protect the structure and crops inside.

Proper ventilation plays an important role in greenhouse farming by helping to regulate
temperature, reduce excess humidity, and create healthier growing conditions. It is a great example of how farming technology and nature work together - sometimes changing dramatically within just 24 hours! 🌿🤍
