Some thoughts...
Cakes are beautiful, delicious, challenging, rewarding and a time consuming wild ride. To be a cake artist means every weekend is dedicated to clients parties, events and gatherings. We get to be a small part of the amazing life moments you all experience - in a beautiful delicious centerpiece.
For the decorators, work ramps up Thursday through Sunday with the most heavy commitments in the summer months. Let's face it, cake delivery is extremely stressful driving with stacked Wedding cakes in months where temperatures peak at high 30's.
Cakes have to be perfectly baked, stacked, leveled, iced and decorated with the utmost care all while being delivered and set up on a tight timeline. One Saturday in the middle of wedding season I had received news my partner and baby were in a car accident and after going to them to check on everyone and assess their injuries (minor) and the damage to the car (substantial) I had to return to the bakery to complete and deliver a wedding cake because -even though my nerves were shot, this is the commitment we make in the wedding industry.
Wedding industry work is a huge commitment of time and energy. Most of not all weekends in the summer are dedicated to clients schedules which can be challenging to be a part of our own family and friends events. A big shout out to those vendors who have stuck it out long term.
For now it's time to press pause on this work and take a break. Time to regroup and decompress and spend this supper with my young family. It's not goodbye it's just see you later
So crack out that recipe book, make a little cake for your family and just enjoy each other.
