Happy 20th Anniversary Thai Orchid Room 🎉👏🏼🙌🥰
As we celebrate Thai Orchid Room’s 20th anniversary, we’ll be sharing some special memories of our team from over the years—the people who helped make Thai Orchid Room what it is today. This is our very first one! 🤍🌺
This beautiful young woman came in for dinner last night. She worked with us 15 years ago while she was still going to school. She remembers our own kids were only 9, 7, 4 and 1 year old. 🥹 Today, she is a registered nurse working in a Calgary emergency room and travelling to serve communities in Nunavut. The stories she shared about her experiences there were incredible—including one about caring for a man who had been injured by a walrus!
I remember Amanda as a tough-as-nails young woman. She would walk everywhere, even to work in -30°C weather! Her work ethic was amazing, and she was such a joy to have as part of our team. 💙
When I asked what she remembered about working with us, she shared:
“When I look back at that chapter of my life, working for you and with the Thai Orchid family was a real safe space, a soft place to land and a highlight of that chapter. Over the years, as I’ve spoken with people about hospitality experiences, they are routinely blown away by how stable of a job it was and how little staff turnover there was, because everyone genuinely enjoyed their roles and each other. It really was something special.”
Seeing the remarkable woman she has become, and knowing that Thai Orchid Room was once a soft place for her to land, is something I will always treasure. I love seeing our past staff and the lives they’re leading now. 🥹💙
After nearly 20 years, I’m realizing that our story isn’t only about the food we’ve served. It’s also about the people who grew up alongside us, the relationships formed here, and the small part we may have played in one another’s lives.
We look forward to sharing more of the wonderful people who have been part of the Thai Orchid family throughout the years.
