COMMUNITY MEETING – MONDAY 6:00 PM AT THE GLOBE

Many hands make light work!

The Globe Live Studio needs your help.
The venue has fallen behind on rent, I haven't taken a paycheque in months, and I recently had to borrow from my personal line of credit to cover payroll. As a result, we have had to lay off our paid staff.

Rather than give up, I'd like to explore a new direction: a community-supported model similar to how community radio stations operate, with volunteers, committees, and a board of directors helping guide the organization.

We're looking for people interested in helping with:
Booking and promotions Sound, lighting, and video Bartending and front door Kitchen and food service Sponsorships and fundraising Grant writing Administration and planning
Fin will continue handling bookings and helping with sound whenever he can. Emily is volunteering behind the bar, Rob continues helping at the door, and others have already stepped up to help keep things going.
I'd also like to discuss forming a board of directors and leadership positions, including operations, finance, programming, promotions, and technical production.

The Globe has built a strong reputation in the music community, has advance bookings, approximately $80,000 in equipment, a favourable lease, and a lot of community goodwill. The question is whether enough people want to help build it into something sustainable.

We are sad to say that the venue is currently under a large amount of financial stress. Today our entire staff team has been laid off and we are working with only volunteers (including myself and rich) until we can get back on our feet. Unfortunately our current ticket split/rental rate is just unsustainable for what the venue offers and we have been losing money on most shows.

Affective immediately we will be changing our booking agreement so every show (19+ and all ages) is a flat $500 rental fee. Starting July 1st we will need to be guaranteed that $500 to host a show, including current bookings. If you have any questions or need to cancel because of this, you can email us at booking@theglobelivestudio. We won't ask for this number up front, but it needs to be paid after the show is completed.

This new rental rate means that all ages shows that sell ~60 tickets or more will make the same amount for artists, but smaller shows won't end in a loss for the venue

We will also be asking that bands/promotors cover their own door person or take shifts for each show going forward.

Apart from these changes we are still hoping to continue operating going into the summer and beyond, but we need the community to come together now more than ever and support the venue and come out to shows with some friends.

We love the community and hope to continue supporting the all ages scene here for years to come, but with our liquor license application still up in the air and very little money coming in this is a tough time for the venue.
