Related to my last post about Lyme disease...

This week, several people I know in our area have had quite bad coughs, some with pneumonia. It's likely there's a viral infection going around.

It's very important to know that COVID-19 is still around. At this time of year, it could also be the flu B-strain. Both of these are serious infections.

Everyone should be getting a new COVID shot every year, because there's a new strain every year. The No Frills in Sturgeon Falls still has shots available if you drop in. We're getting our second shot of the year this week because we're higher risk for COVID.

It's also a good idea to mask when you're indoors in public places. I'll be masking for the next couple of weeks at least. If we get COVID, neither of us can work for a couple of weeks, and we have to close the bakery!

If you have questions, I'm at the bakery on Saturday and Sunday.

And I run a drop-in Zoom session about infectious diseases and vaccines every Tuesday evening from 8-10. You can be anonymous if you want, and post your questions in the chat for moderators to read to me, if you don't want to identify yourself.

Good morning!

This is Tara, Christine's partner. This post is NOT about the bakery. It's about Lyme disease.

I'm an expert on this topic (infectious diseases researcher, prof at the University of Toronto).

I've pulled two black-legged ticks off our dog in the last two days. We know that since last year at least, some of these ticks have been carrying Lyme disease.

It's important you know what to do, including when to go for antibiotics if you find a tick on yourself or loved ones. Here is the website about Lyme disease from the Public Health Agency of Canada: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/lyme-disease.html

I don't have time to answer questions on Facebook. However, if you want to talk to me, I'm at the bakery on Saturday and Sunday this week (yes, we're opening on Sundays starting this week).
