Youth isn't wasted on the young, it's given to them to create a lifetime of memories.
As we age certain things become clearer, personally my warranty ran out when I hit 60, hernia operation, both eye lenses replaced, 2 heart stents, up until then, not a broken bone or stitch in 60 years, but I wouldn't change a thing, the knees don't work, the back aches, but that's just my body saying " here feel this?" you're still alive if you can.
Ah but I can't complain
SAW:
Saw the Beatles storm North America
saw the nightly news with Walter Cronkite daily updating the dead and wounded in the Vietnam War
Saw humanity caring and sharing and loving each other for a period of a few years, then the first stage of innocence and love end at Altamont
Saw the first moon landing on tv
Watched the Vancouver Canucks first NHL Game followed by seasons of mediocrity, still watching and hoping
Saw Saturday morning cartoons, with the new lineup starting in September
Saw Arena rock grow huge in the 70's as music got bigger and louder, and more commercial
Saw Disco get everyone dancing again (Like it or not)
Saw a rebellion unheard of since that pelvis swinging guy hit the airwaves, as Johnny and Sid redefined what passed as music and rebellion.
Saw the last vestiges of love and innocence eliminated on a New York street, by the thing he hated above all else, guns.
Saw, and fell in love with the sport of Paintball (War Games) and turned my hobby into my living for almost 3 decades
Saw 78 give way to 33 then to 45 then 8 Track, then Cassette, then laser disc, to CD, then dvds, Blue Ray, USB, Streaming........
Saw Record stores wither and die
Saw live music Bar venues, wither and die
Saw TV change from Thursday Night prime time slot, to watch when you want, anytime.
Saw Rotary phones with long coily cords you could go down the hallway and hide in the closet to talk to your girl, give way to complete sound and image studios in the palm of your hand
Saw Recorded human emotional music give way to synthetic artificial soulless dub tracks
There are many, many, many, more things I've seen in my life and I am happy to have lived in an era of Humanity growth like I have. When someone over 60 starts to gripe about how things are today, open that memory drawer and pull out a few scattered ghosts, these are things, this, and the next Generation will never experience, be grateful and share them with those younger, for they will never come this way again.
Oh wait, yes THE SUNRIDGE RESTAURANT is open during these chilly mornings to warm you inside and out, the Coffee's on, the background music will have you singing along (or out loud as they were the other day 3 part/table harmony) And as always the food is second to none, I watched 3 Meat Lovers Skillets ordered in 5 minutes today, and all reviews were thumbs up.
