Hi everyone 👋 It’s been a few months since we shut down Two Six Ate Restaurant. During this time we’ve been resting, travelling, catching up with friends and family, and recovering from a pretty serious case of restaurant burn out. Turns out 11 years of running a restaurant takes some time to recover from.

During our break we’ve had some time to reflect on many things, one of which being our IG account - which up until now was run by both of us (Emily & Steve). We feel that with the new year upon us this is the perfect time to make a change.

Since the restaurant is no longer in operation but Steve is still cooking, we’ve decided to modify the 268 IG account to better reflect what he’s been up to. Moving forward the account will be run by Chef Steve and will feature all of the things he’s working on including home cooking, fermentation, charcuterie, gardening etc. as well as any future projects and updates.

Looking forward to this new chapter!

My heart is heavy. Still in disbelief. Lost a good friend and a colleague and an absolute gem of a human. I’ll miss our after service industry chats and working side by side. We’ve done so many events over the years, and every time we were so stoked when we got the chance to collaborate. We could always depend on each other when extra hands were needed. 11 years ago today we opened our doors. Though so much time has gone by, we can still remember the panic and excitement of opening night like it was yesterday. We were lucky enough to try chef Sarath’s new 8 course tasting menu at a few weeks before it launched. It was a phenomenal meal with beautiful flavours and presentation to match. Hearing the stories behind each dish added to the whole experience. You can really tell that so much care and thought has gone into each dish. Katha is currently offering an 8 course Indian tasting menu. To all of our veggie followers note that there is a vegan option for every course and it is just as delicious as the non-vegan option.
Congrats to our old Preston neighbours on their relaunch and good luck to you chef Sarath and team 👏

Long post warning 🚨

That’s a wrap Ottawa. Thank you for 11 years ❤️
We’ve spent the last week closing down and clearing out of 268 Preston. It feels weird after spending countless hours in this building, we often spent more time at work then we did at home. We are grateful to have had the chance to talk to Mario Carlucci from CBC/Radio-Canada about shutting the place down, the link for the interview is in our bio.

We would like to thank all of our former and current staff for the last 11 years of hard work. We would also like to thank our families for all of their support, without them our restaurant dream would never have been possible.

The decision to close was not an easy one, and the thought of shutting down a restaurant while it was running was a truly daunting task. Burnout from a hard industry played a large role in our decision. As much as we love what we do, this job takes a toll on your mind and body.

We feel at peace knowing that we were able to open the place and close it on our own terms, and we are both ready for the next chapter. What that next chapter looks like is unkown to us. We don’t have a plan and are both looking forward to a long break.
