So how exactly does this work, now that Port Alberni has been selected for Home Town Takeover Canada?

The show will be filming in Port Alberni from June 10-August 28, and they will be renovating key civic spaces, 8 resident homes, and select businesses of their choosing. As we all saw this week, the format is all about the surprise element, so we will be ready for the big reveal when the series airs this fall!

There are so many great stories to tell here, and only so many episodes they can film, but if you have a great suggestion, please email it directly to the show’s producers at: [email protected]

As for the bill when it arrives at the table? Home Town Takeover Canada covers the cost of the renovations to businesses and resident homes. The City of Port Alberni will cover the cost of the renovations to civic spaces, but we are able to leverage their team of designers and renovation experts for this work for free—a significant value-add that would not be available to us otherwise.

The exterior renovations to the Marine Building were approved by City Council at a Council meeting on April 20, 2026, ahead of the Home Town Takeover Canada announcement. City staff have identified potential sources of financing for this project, including grant monies and strategies to leverage funding from non-tax sources. The City is finalizing the funding plan now.

We’re thrilled to bring this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to the benefit of all. Please stay tuned for further updates on projects that Home Town Takeover Canada will be completing in civic spaces.

Getting sick of me "spamming your feed" yet?😜

Well...that's a wrap!🤗
Today was the busiest day we've ever had in the history of the Donut Shop!
The outpouring of support was truly overwhelming.
We love you all for a reason, and today that reason was given in abundance!🥹
It was tough, and we had to lock the door a few times just to catch up on demand.
Super sorry to anyone who was forced to wait or was unable to get some of our joy circles due to this. Truly unexpected. We'll do our best to make it up to you in the near future.

We are now officially closed until the fall at our location at the Port Alberni Harbour Quay.

That being said, please keep coming to the Quay over the summer.
There are so many fantastic vendors down here who will still be open and happy to serve you everything from snacks, to postcards to hiking gear as well as the Famer's Market on Saturdays and the Crafter's Market on Sundays.
And, as hinted at previously, keep an eye on this page!
I may have a surprise or two in the works.😘

Hi Gang! Me again!! 👋😃

Holy heck what an exciting day for Port Alberni!!!

As some of you may have also heard, the City is planning to do some renos of thier own to our building at the Harbour Quay.
Theyre looking to do so along side the work being done for the show.
Unfortunately, that means this work begins immediately so we will be closing down for the summer until it's all completed.
We will be open tomorrow ( Weds, June 10) for seniors day, but closing the doors for the summer at the end of the day.

We will be back!

Until then we want to say thank you to all of our fantastic customers from all over the world, and apologise for the inconvenient timing of it all.
For anyone who has placed orders with us for June or July, we are working hard to ensure we can fullfill those orders with a temporary production space. I will contact everyone as soon as I can to let you know where that space will be for pick-up.

We have the Hometown Takeover event being hosted by the City of Port Alberni down here at the Harbour Quay from 8am to 11am.
We're making special Port Alberni themed donuts for it! 🍩😁🍩

Parking will be sparse nearby so arriving early is probly a good idea.

It's New Donut Saturday!

As promised, we have the Pride donuts on!
Blackberry glaze and sprinkles with a lil candy flag held by a pair of gummi bears.

🎉🍩It's International Donut Day!!!🍩🥳
Today's the day we cellebrate all things donut!
( we kinda do everyday, but today it's official😜)

For this wonderous day we've got a special donut made to resemble the iconic donut most seen in media and entertainment, one made famous by the Simpsons.
A pink strawberry glaze topped with rainbow sprinkles that we call "The Homer"!

We've also still got the ever popular Root Beer Glazed on for a couple more days.
And, of course, all the regular favorites like Peanut Butter Cups, Maple Bacon, Lemon Coconut and a whole myriad of spinkled!
27 different flavors in total!
