Blog #33 – Brewery Snapshot: Momentum
There’s been a really good energy around the brewery lately.
Not just in one area either — we’re seeing momentum build across the tap room, retail cans, events, and outside brand awareness all at the same time. After a lot of groundwork, it finally feels like different parts of the brewery are starting to move together in the same direction.
The Port City Beer Run on May 30 was a great example of that. Evergreen Pale Ale and Mario Italian Pilsner were easily the strongest-performing beers at the event, which continues to reinforce something we’ve been seeing for a while now — approachable, repeatable, easy-drinking beers are really connecting with people right now.
We also hosted a tasting at ANBL KV featuring Evergreen and From Away West Coast IPA, which gave people another chance to try the products outside of the brewery itself. Those types of events matter. They help build familiarity with the brand, introduce new people to the beer, and keep Drifter visible outside our own walls.
On the production side, Mario Italian Pilsner is currently ready for canning to support new ANBL orders, and that timing lines up perfectly because Mario officially relaunched into ANBL stores across New Brunswick on June 1 and will remain available through November.
That’s a big step for us.
Mario has quietly become one of the clearest examples of where the brewery is heading stylistically. Crisp, balanced, approachable beer that people can come back to again and again.
At the same time, we’re continuing to push forward with small batch and seasonal projects. Summer Somewhere Key Lime Cerveza is nearing kegging for both licensee accounts and the tap room, while Staycation Blueberry Ale and a new Witbier small batch are both getting underway.
That mix matters too.
The core beers create consistency, while the seasonal and rotating batches keep the brewery creative and give people reasons to keep exploring what we’re doing.
Inside the tap room, Evergreen Pale Ale, Idle Time Light Ale, and Mario Italian Pilsner have been leading draught sales, while Evergreen, From Away West Coast IPA, and Idle Time have been the strongest movers in retail cans.
Interestingly, Mario and Italian Plum Sour cans both sold out during the reporting period, which probably limited some additional retail growth opportunity. It’s a good problem to have, even if it’s still frustrating in the moment.
The next few months are important for us.
The Mario relaunch across ANBL stores gives us a chance to rebuild retail momentum across the province, and we’re supporting that by distributing product sheets and conducting staff tastings at select locations to help build familiarity and confidence around the beer.
At the end of the day, what’s been most encouraging is that none of this momentum is coming from one single thing.
It’s coming from a lot of small things starting to work together at the same time.
That’s usually how real momentum starts.
