In 1916, Nona Crofton’s husband Fred left for the First World War, leaving her alone on their 100-acre Salt Spring Island farm with six young children — including a newborn. Rather than give up, she converted their farmhouse into a 12-bedroom guesthouse, named it Harbour House after Fred’s Irish family home, and opened her doors to travellers.
Her warmth became legendary. Guests came back year after year. Billy Eng served as the hotel’s cook for more than fifty years. Clay tennis courts. Saltwater swimming pools. Generations of island memories.
110 years later, we’re still here — and we’d love to welcome you.
