Yesterday was one of the saddest days that I’ve had in a long time.
Last night my brother Bucky, daughter Natalie, Norman, Taylor, Jeni and I all bid farewell to a place that my parents built. A place that we all lovingly know as the Hong Kong Restaurant. I pretty much grew up here. Had my own daughter and she grew up there like I did.
We were so blessed to have met so many wonderful people throughout the years that these people often became friends and friends became extended families. My family have been so privileged to have been able to serve generations of families and had the honour of creating wonderful memories for them as well through our food.
With this said, on behalf of my family Wanda, Elaine, Bucky and Natalie, I would like to thank the people of the Soo, Garden River, Rankin, surrounding Algoma region, and afar for giving us this honour of putting food on your table. Without you, there wouldn’t have been us!
Thanks to all the wonderful staff that we’ve had who became more of our extended family than employees. Special thanks to Jeni, Darlene, Carla, and Christine who stayed with us till the very end. For this I will be forever grateful.
A building is just a building, it’s the people within that makes it a home. That’s what the Hong Kong Restaurant was, a home to me, my brother, my daughter and my wonderful long-time employees. We will all miss you!
Last night my daughter and I shared our last memories in our home of so many years and turned off the lights together one last time before we took with us all the wonderful memories of the past with my parents and wonderful times we shared together here in this building. We will forever cherish this place!
Thanks to all of you for making my years of cooking for you such a wonderful and fulfilling life. It wasn’t work because to me cooking for family is never work! I will remember all of you and wish everyone of you a happy and fulfilling life and may your chopsticks forever bring you full bellies!
Till we meet again! Wokking out!
