We get asked all the time: *"Why is craft spirits pricing so high in Ontario?"* The truth is, when you buy a bottle from a local producer, we aren't the ones keeping the lion’s share.
Here is the **"Math of a Bottle"** in Ontario as of 2026:
* **The Tax Man’s Cut:** Between Federal Excise Tax, HST, and the Ontario Spirit Tax, the government takes about **$18.00** right off the top.
* **The LCBO’s Cut:** For every bottle on their shelf, the LCBO adds a massive markup and service fees to cover their operations.
* **The "Rest":** That leaves the distillery with what’s left to cover the high-quality local grain (liquid), the glass bottle, the label, the labor to distil it, and the cost to ship it.
**The Reality:** On a **$34 bottle**, after the government and middlemen take their 70%+, a craft distiller might only see a few dollars in actual profit.
