We can’t quite believe it, but the World Cup is nearly here.

In just over a week, we’ll be off to the races, and we’ll be showing all the games at The Backyard.

Here’s the schedule for the first week.

We’ll have sound on for select games, and by “select games” we mostly mean the ones where enough fans show up to make some noise. So grab your friends, grab your fellow fans, throw on your jersey, and come watch the biggest sporting event in the world with us.

Whether you’re backing Canada, England, Scotland, Brazil, Argentina, or anyone else, there’s a seat for you here.

Saturday brunch is now a thing at The Backyard.

We’ve got the classics covered. Eggs bennys, breakfast bowls, brunch sandwiches, fresh mimosas, and $10 double Caesars.

Whether you’re rolling in after a morning outside or just making brunch the plan, we’re here from 11 to 2 every Saturday (and Sunday).

This week at The Backyard.

A few reasons to wander down the hill, pull up a chair, and settle in for a bit.

Lunch runs Monday-Friday 12pm-3pm
Monday brings half-price kids meals and milkshakes.
Tuesday is $5 off burgers.
Wednesday is trivia with Shane Fry at 7:30pm.
Thursday we’ve got $6 local taps.
Friday is $10 Dentville Ginger Beer cocktails.
Saturday and Sunday brunch runs 11am to 2pm.
And Sunday evening we’ve got free live music with Georgia Lee Johnson from 5pm to 7pm.

Simple stuff. Good food, cold drinks, familiar faces, and a few excuses to get out of the house.

We’re pretty pumped to be showing all the World Cup games during opening hours.

With the tournament happening in North America, we finally get some friendly kick off times, and that feels worth celebrating.

We never set out for The Backyard to become a sports pub, and we still don’t really think we are. But we are a place where people come together, and the World Cup is one of those rare sporting moments that brings nations, neighbours, and complete strangers into the same room.

So whoever you’re cheering for this tournament, we’ve got you. Sound will be on for games where we’ve got a good crowd, so grab your friends, grab your compatriots, grab your jersey, grab a drink and come settle in.

It’s going to be one hell of a tournament.

And yes, these videos were taken during England’s run in the Euros, but for the record, we are firmly behind all nations at the World Cup. Everyone is welcome.

Fresh, light, and only around for lunch.

Our Summer Salad has been quietly becoming a bit of a favourite these last couple weeks. Spinach, fresh strawberries, cucumber, goat cheese, and candied pecans we make in house, finished with balsamic dressing.

It’s the kind of lunch that makes you feel like you’ve made at least one responsible decision that day.

Available Monday to Friday from 12-3pm.

Tonight at The Backyard:

Habs Game 4 is on at 5pm, and we’ll have the sound on.

Because of the game, trivia with Shane Fry will start a little later than usual at 8pm, with a slightly condensed program so we can fit it all in without rushing the good stuff too much.

Come for the game, come for trivia, come for both. Settle in, cheer on the Habs, then stick around and test your brain once your heart rate comes back down.

Huge thank you to everyone who came out this weekend to help support the Howe Sound boys on their way to provincials.

Together, you helped raise $500, one sandwich, burger, pizza, and bowl at a time. That meant 14 sandwiches, 229 burgers, 128 pizzas, and 100 bowls all helping get the boys a little closer to where they need to be.

We’re so proud of this group. They’ve already won the Sea to Sky zone, and now they’re off to represent Howe Sound at provincials. A special shoutout to our Backyard boys in the kitchen who have been absolutely crushing it on and off the field.

Good luck this week, boys. The Backyard, Valleycliffe and Squamish are behind you.

Here’s what’s happening this week at The Backyard.

Mondays are for the kids, with half price meals and the milkshake menu in full swing.

Tuesday brings $5 off burgers, Wednesday is Trivia with Shane Fry at 7:30pm, and Thursday we’re pouring local taps for $6.

Friday we’ve got $10 Dentville Ginger Beer cocktails, Saturday is $6 Steamworks taps, and Sunday wraps things up properly with brunch from 11am to 2pm and free live music from River Bank Roses from 6pm to 8pm.

A full week of good reasons to wander down to Valleycliffe.
