The Back Kitchen is a seasonally open, community-led, not-for-profit restaurant on beautiful Amherst Island.

The Back Kitchen is a seasonal, volunteer-led restaurant serving residents and visitors on Amherst Island. We are now open for the 2022 season until Labour Day.

Last call, Amherst Island! 🍔🍟 This is our final weekend of the 2026 season, and there’s still time to come in for all your Back Kitchen favourites before we close for the winter:

Burgers, pulled pork, breakfast sandwiches and wraps, and the ever-popular Greek wrap. Fries, onion rings and more. Amherst Island Coffee Company coffee and Island Tea Co. . And ice cream. Lots and lots of ice cream.

We’re open today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday), 11am to 8pm.

Tonight we’re also handing out Halloween treats to the kids starting at 5pm, so bring your little ghosts and goblins by!

Thank you for a wonderful season. Don’t miss your chance this weekend, or you’ll have to wait until spring. 🧡🏝️

Halloween is tomorrow night! 🎃 The Back Kitchen is open late on Saturday, October 31, from 5pm until the last little ghouls head home (probably around 9). Here's what's waiting for you:

• 50 handmade treats from island maker Delta Pop Co. for the first 50 trick-or-treaters through our door. When they're gone, they're gone!

• Halloween food specials to fuel the grown-ups on trick-or-treat duty

• Trunk-or-treat: Don't live in the village? Bring your car and your candy, park in our lot or out front, and hand out treats right from your trunk. Decorations encouraged!

• Rain or shine, come warm up inside the café.

🐟 🍟 PLUS! LAST CHANCE FOR FISH AND CHIPS - TONIGHT IS THE LAST FISH FRYDAY OF THE SEASON

Also around the village:

• Amherst Island Fire Station: trick-or-treating from 6 to 9pm. The fire trucks won't be at Centennial Park this year (subject to change).
• Neilson Store Museum & Cultural Centre: goodie bags from 5pm until after dark, hosted by the Three Witches
• Amherst Island General Store: open late with treats, 5pm until the ghouls go home

And don't forget, this is our last weekend of the season! Sunday, November 1 is our final day before we close for the winter.

Halloween in Stella 🎃 Calling all little ghosts, goblins and ghouls! On Saturday, October 31, the village of Stella is the place to be for trick-or-treating, and The Back Kitchen is staying open late to join the fun.

At The Back Kitchen, 5pm until after dark (probably around 9):

• Halloween food specials for the grown-ups doing all the walking

• Treats for trick-or-treaters, including cake pops from island maker Delta Pop Co. for the first 50 kids through our door

• A few more spooky surprises still in the works

• Trunk-or-treat: islanders are welcome to hand out treats from their decorated car trunks in our parking lot or out front. Come set up and enjoy the evening with your neighbours.

• Rain or shine, warm up inside the café or out in our backyard gazebo.

Around the village:

• Neilson Store Museum & Cultural Centre: goodie bags from 5pm until after dark, hosted by the Three Witches

• Amherst Island General Store: open late with treats, 5pm until the ghouls go home

Five more days, Amherst Island! 🍂

The Back Kitchen is open for one last week before our winter break. You can find us today (Saturday, Oct 24) and tomorrow (Sunday, Oct 25), and then for a final weekend: Friday, Oct 30, Saturday, Oct 31, and Sunday, Nov 1. Sunday, November 1 is our last day until we reopen in the spring.

🐟 Fish Fryday is ON tonight, and we’re counting down.

There are only three Fish Frydays left this season: tonight (Oct 16), next Friday (Oct 23), and our final fry on Friday, Oct 30.

So we’re going for the hat trick. Order fish and chips all three Fridays, and on the 30th your final order comes with a free ice cream🍦on us. It’s our way of saying thanks for sticking with us right to the end.

Happy Thanksgiving weekend from all of us at The Back Kitchen! 🦃

This weekend only, we’re serving up a classic home-made turkey dinner: Roast turkey with stuffing, potatoes and gravy, corn and mixed vegetables, and cranberry sauce.

Whether you’re hosting a crowd, taking a break from the kitchen, or just craving a proper Thanksgiving plate, come by any time we’re open, 11am to 7pm. Our full menu is also available if turkey isn't your thing.

Available today, Saturday, October 10, and tomorrow, Sunday, October 11 only. Once it’s gone, it’s gone!

It's Fish Fryday again at the BK! But if fish ain't your thing then why not pop in for one of our delicious burgers!

If you're all about the fish, then you can choose from 1 or 2 pieces of our Guinness b**r battered haddock, fries, coleslaw, and homemade tartar sauce! Served fresh from 5–7pm for dine-in or pickup.

Pre-ordering online? Just remember to set your pickup time for after 5pm — that's when fish and chips appear on the menu.

Or better yet, come on in and order your dinner in person! Our full menu is always available too.

🍂 Fall hours update 🍂 As we get further into the fall season, we're once again adjusting our hours to fit the needs of our island community.

Our new hours:
Friday: 12–7 (Fish Fryday is still on!)
Saturday & Sunday: 11–7
Closed Monday to Thursday

That means we're no longer open on Thursdays. The good news is that we're planning to stay open until Sunday, November 1st, so there's still plenty of time to come by for a meal, a coffee and a visit before we close for the season.
