Today, July 5th, Venezuela commemorates 215 years since its Declaration of Independence.

But today, our homeland remains captive under a destructive regime that not only subjugates, persecutes, and tortures the Venezuelan people, but has also shown absolute incompetence and indifference in the face of our people’s suffering.

In response to the catastrophe caused by the earthquakes, the regime did not merely fail to respond, they did something even worse. They left us helpless, abandoned, and vulnerable because of the level of corruption, institutional destruction, and indifference it has imposed on the country.

Every criminal who has destroyed, repressed, and abandoned Venezuela must be held accountable.

Our souls are wounded by so many Venezuelans who have lost their lives, by so many families who remain on the streets, and by so many others who, separated by forced distance, are living this pain from afar with broken hearts.

On this day, the call is to our brave people: to reflect on where we come from, what we are made of, and to recognize the immense courage of Venezuelans who, both inside and outside the country, continue to resist with dignity.

The future is ours.
It lives in our people, in our memory, in our strength, and in our determination to be free again.

Venezuela was born to be free.
And free it shall be again.

🇻🇪🇵🇹 In Venezuela, the arepa is part of our identity, our table, and our history. But it is also part of a beautiful shared story with many Portuguese families who, through hard work, discipline, and love for our country, helped build some of the great areperas that marked generations.

From small family-owned spots to larger, vibrant areperas full of life, the Portuguese community left a deep mark on Venezuelan food culture.

Today, from The Arepa Republic, we want to honour all our Portuguese friends and celebrate the special bond between Venezuela and Portugal.

Thank you, Cristiano Ronaldo, for being here in Toronto and for reminding us of the passion, pride, and greatness that football brings to every community.

We wish Portugal the very best in their upcoming match against Spain. 🇵🇹⚽

Today, as we celebrate this diverse, generous, and extraordinary country, our hearts are also with Venezuela and all the families affected by the recent earthquakes.

In difficult moments, solidarity reminds us who we are. We are deeply grateful to Canada and to the Canadian community for always opening their hearts and supporting those in need.

As Venezuelans and Canadians in Canada, we celebrate not only this beautiful country we now call home, but also the values that make it so special: kindness, inclusion, diversity, and unity.

Let’s celebrate Canada Day with gratitude, hope, and solidarity.
