I’m brewing a famous oolong tea called Tie Guan Yin (goddess of mercy). And I need to get out the door in a hurry. Brewing tea Grandpa style is my go-to when I’m on the move.
It’s simple — no strainer, no fuss. Just tea, hot water, and a good cup.
You want to use teas that open up into full leaves or clusters on a stem, like a nice Taiwanese oolong. Big leaves are perfect — they gently soak up the water, sink to the bottom, and you can just sip from the top. As you go, top it up with more hot water or a little more tea if you want a stronger flavour.
You will skip watching the beautiful leaves unfurling when you’re rushing around — unless you’re using a glass cup — but that’s okay. You still get to enjoy a smooth, full-bodied tea that tastes far better than anything you’ll find at a café. Here are some some great teas to brew Grandpa style:
•Tie Guan yin Oolong
•Jasmine Pearls Green tea
•RouGui Oolong
•Keemun Mao Feng Black tea
Any whole tea leaves either rolled ball style or wire like shape style works.
