If you've eaten at Mamo Burger Bar or Georgia Rae's Hot Chicken over the past few years, chances are you've enjoyed a meal prepared by Khalil and Lindsay. ❤️
For years, they have been an incredible part of our team, pouring their hearts into every meal they served our foodie community. They have always shown up for others, and now it's our turn to show up for them.
On April 26, Khalil suffered a devastating stroke and was placed in a medically induced coma. He fought incredibly hard to stay with us, and while we are beyond grateful he survived, his recovery has been long and challenging.
That morning, Khalil was found by his girlfriend, Lindsay, who immediately called 911 and stayed by his side until paramedics arrived. Her quick actions played a critical role in saving his life. Since then, the two of them have been riding an emotional roller coaster together.
They have both been off work since April, and the financial burden continues to grow.
Even before the stroke, Khalil was undergoing testing and treatment for a serious heart condition. Those treatments had to be put on hold while his body recovered, but doctors have now shifted their focus back to his heart. This means frequent appointments and travel to London, all while he continues recovering from the stroke.
Because Khalil is currently unable to work or drive, Lindsay has taken on the role of both caregiver and chauffeur. Although they've been trying to access government assistance, delays and eligibility hurdles have made things incredibly difficult. On top of that, they now need to find housing better suited to Khalil's new physical limitations, adding even more financial pressure during an already overwhelming time.
We're hoping this fundraiser and GoFundMe can help ease some of that burden so they can focus on what matters most—Khalil's recovery and the road ahead.
