Comment And or Suggestion .....as store owner , I hear a lot of complaining about why Wingham seems to be just a Drive through Town , to get too other places and Events in other Towns and villages.
Myself as a person that has volunteered and help build and organize many events , in other location.I can see for Wingham it more the lack of getting people interested and getting volunteers to get events to happen , i Know it takes multiple hands to accomplish this.
I have been in the Wingham area since we moved here in 1976, remembering when there was the Wingham Western Hoedown , Sidewalk Sales , Midway , Mainstreet Closed , Classic Cars Lined up , Music Stages, the streets and sidewalk full of people, Facepainting , Balloons Popcorn , Cotton Candy ( No Empty store fronts ). This is my Thoughts and Suggestion , Wingham Has alot of potential for events and new Business, 1- For building owners that have empty store fronts , Promote or Hold Business Draws to allow a new Business to open and Operate for 6 months or Even a 1 yr Rent free , 2. - Wingham Airport would be a great location to Hold a Hot Air Balloon festival , 3-- As there is alot of Good local talent around , could hold event like Music on the street with Classic Car CruiseNight , Show and Shine, Combined with Sidewalk sales . Winter Could be just as good with something like a Wingham Winter Fest , With Ice Carving , Snow Carving , Snowshoe Races , etc. .
But these are only suggestions , Others may have thoughts on this too, I think instead of Complaining about , Volunteer pull up your sleeves and start doing something about it and bring Our town Back To Life , Help Make it a town to Be Recognized. Thanks For Reading And Get Out there And Volunteer. The Clubs and the BIA can only do so much .
