POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician participates in maintaining all production and marine equipment at Scotia Garden Seafood’s Yarmouth operations.

POSITION INFORMATION

Full-time, hourly position with competitive wages.

40-hour work week (Monday to Friday).

Overtime may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Participate in maintenance operations involving processing equipment, pumps, air compressors, lighting, sanitation equipment and vessels.

Ensure all operations are managed effectively by meeting safety and cost objectives.

Reading diagrams and schematics to determine work procedures.

Collaborate with the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure compliance with food safety and quality programs as well as health and safety programs.

Continue education by participating in professional development opportunities.
Contribute to maintaining a positive, healthy and safe working environment.

Other duties as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is performed within the manufacturing facility. When in the facility, the individual may be subject to loud noise and variable temperatures. They will be required to wear the appropriate CSA approved personal protective equipment and other garments as set out in the company policies and procedures.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Training:
High School diploma
NSCC Industrial Mechanic diploma (Preferred)

Experience:
Minimum 3 years’ industrial experience
Job training provided

Competencies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Organized and detail oriented.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet simultaneous deadlines.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Physically ability to lift up to 25 kg.

Willingness to take direction from superiors and advice from staff.

POSITION SUMMARY

Scotia Garden Seafood’s Meal and Oil Division renders fish and poultry products to produce protein meals and oils. The Process Operator will play a key role in the production of rendered products by operating and maintaining equipment, receiving inputs, preparing shipments, etc. and will report to the Plant Manager.

POSITION DETAILS

Full time, year-round

40 hours per week, must be willing to work overtime

Located in Short Beach, NS

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Complete training on each piece of equipment in the plant (excluding boiler room)

Operate equipment during production.

Must be flexible and able to operate all pieces of equipment in the event of employee absences.

Assist with repairs on equipment during production

Complete production documentation as required

Receive raw product/supplies from couriers

Operate forklift/bobcat

Prepare meal shipments

Load meal and oil trucks

Plant cleaning pressure washing, cooker washing, separator deep cleaning

Lock and secure the plant at end of day

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

Training provided

Experience in an industrial plant would be considered an asset.

First Aid and WHMIS/GHS training would be considered an asset.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Industrial processing plant environment with loud noises and variable temperatures and requires (but is not limited to) the physical activities of standing, walking, crouching, pushing, lifting and carrying. Employees are required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment and other garments as set out in the company policies and procedures.

COMPENSATION

Wage will be based on experience and qualifications.

Duties & Responsibilities

Working in a fish plant processing fish and preparing for shipping

Conducting any of the following tasks:

o Grading, packing or weighing fish

o Labeling boxes

o Transporting filled boxes to the freezer

o Tidying up once tasks are completed

o Following all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies

o Cleaning

Examples of Positions

o Fillet machine operator

o Forklift operator

o Loading plate freezers

o Night time clean-up

o No formal degree, certificate or diploma required; will train
