The Mate-shop concept operates in a two-fold system:

On one hand customers can enter the space to have the ultimate Mate experience by drinking Mate in it's various forms from the traditional Brazilian drink in a larger gourd with a metal straw (bomba) to the other south American regional variation

s such as the Argentinean leafy cut in a smaller receptor to the cold Paraguayan Terere. Mate is also morphed into other familiar drinks such as a Mate-latte (a shot of roasted mate served with steamed milk) or blended with fruits to make refreshing Mate smoothies. While at the same time, customers can purchase their mate in bulk and all of the necessary paraphernalia to drink Mate be it the traditional gourd cuias to ceramic variations made in Berlin. Our aim is to cut out the middle-man as much as possible and source our products directly from the producers wherever possible. In the case of the Mate, we are producing this in a traditional artisan method in South Brazil with a fresh quality that makes it unique in comparison to what is available on the market. Through a partnership with the Beuthe Hochschule and the Bonus Transfer program we intend to scientifically prove this with testing the difference of our mate quality with industrial variations and researching the benefits of the drink. Similar to the Mate, other nutritionally-rich products will be available at the shop in a bulk quantity from honey harvested in Prenzlauer Berg, to local fresh produce that is delivered from a demeter farmer every Friday, to raw Belgian chocolate and Spirulina from India – all high valued products that are unavailable in most shops. We will over consumers information about the producers and in as many cases and possible opt for a non-packaging bulk concept.
