The French restaurant La Cocotte is located in the heart of the Schöneberg neighborhood of Berlin in a flamboyant Art-nouveau building. e Burgundy influence the menu in winter, but Provence and Basque Country are very present in summer so the whole menu is a kind of “French fusion“. The kitchen favorites are the traditional stews with beautiful names as Boeuf bourguignon (beef stew marinated in red wine) or Jarret d’agneau (tender Lamb chop) or Porcelet à la Corse (a family recipe with piglet stewed in sundried tomatoes, black olives and goat cheese). Next to surprising salads variations and soups , La Cocotte serves also the „must have“ French desserts like Crème brûlée and Mousse au chocolat.

Back in 2007, especially outside of New York and San Francisco, no young Americans knew what Chartreuse was and no bars really served it. Then Tarantino made the movie “Death Proof” and everybody wanted the elixir so unique that it gave its name to a color. First the exclusive cocktail lounges with the rediscover of the prohibition superstar “The Last Word” and then literally everybody at home. Now a quarter of the production goes directly to the United States.
Since 2019 the production grew of 20% and now the Carthusian monks says : “Ça suffit!”, they don’t have time enough “to pray for humanity in the contemplation; keeping the vow of silence of their order”. Yes, Chartreuse still belongs to the monastery and only two monks know the secret recipe of the 130 herbs! They tell that for the biodiversity and for the refusal of capitalistic never-ending growth, people have to appreciate that “When you drink Chartreuse, you're not just drinking liqueur, but a little bit of eternity.”
At the end the price just skyrocketed and suddenly, Chartreuse is three time more expensive than 5 years ago. At La Cocotte we tried other alternatives but our beloved guests said “No, nothing compares to you, Chartreuse!” So we decide to keep the Chartreuse and only to double the price. On the top, “The Last Word” Cocktail will be possible to order. It will not be on the menu, it will be just for people in the know…
