Dear all,
We are delighted to invite you to the tonights opening of the exhibition “Real Self-Care Stories" by artist Patty Nigri .patty.art . The vernissage will start at 18h, and you will have opportjnity to engage into multiple self-care activities like reading corner, collage, journaling, etc.
How come self-care makes us feel guilty instead of warm? Why do we sometimes think care is an individual pursuit?
This exhibition challenges a narrative of care that is glossy, isolated, and unattainable — and asks what self-care actually looks like when it's real.
Real Self-Care Stories was developed as Patty Nigri's BA Illustration thesis, exploring care and self-care through academic research with a focus on the experiences of women, people of colour, and q***r communities.
Out of the books and into conversation, Patty interviewed people from disadvantaged groups to learn from their experiences. The illustrated stories you see here are the living part of that research: honest, personal accounts of how real people navigate care in their everyday lives.
For this exhibition, she went further — turning the research inward and placing herself as a subject too. Her own story is here as well, a reminder that no one comes unscathed.
Self-care is deeply tied to context, background, and the people around us. It walks hand-in-hand with collective care, even when that's rarely part of the conversation.
These stories are offered as both a mirror and an invitation — to recognise yourself, and to start building your own version of care.
