I took this little video during soundcheck of our first Sunday Session last weekend. Once things got underway, I was busy behind the bar making drinks, so there aren’t many other photos or videos to show for it, but suffice it to say, it was a vibe. At least until the rain let loose. Then everyone ran inside and chaos ensued as we tried to figure out who was sitting where, but that’s the game.

Anyway, Tim Lehmann and friends, sometimes appearing under the name Green Tea, will be back for three more Sunday Sessions this summer, and the next one is already this Sunday.

Come by Werderplatz from 14:00–16:00 for live music, coffee, cake, cocktails, or whatever suits the afternoon.

CULTURE ALERT!

Tonight from 19:00 to 21:30, the terrace remains open and we'll be pouring from our slightly improvised outdoor bar setup.

Inside, it's the fourth staging of Immer Noch Da, presented in cooperation with the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. The one-woman piece was created and is performed by Ute Baggeröhr.

Whatever the Grateful Dead is, it tends to strike when you're out there on the road, traveling and not knowing whether where you came from is where you'll return, but carrying a grand feeling that where you are right now must be exactly where you're meant to be found if anyone is looking.

The people in this video span generations. At least one of them looks about my age, and I'm still young by Deadhead standards. So I'm confident enough in its magic to call it timeless.

There are those who may disagree, of course, but certain aspects of what that band did are crystal in their beauty and perfection. To me, anyway. And to quite a lot of other people, it seems.

Stop by the Eel and you'll hear this and plenty more Americana fluttering out of the speakers, inside and out. Music beckoning deliverance, reckoning with collective karma, carrying equal measures of joy and sorrow, chance and redemption.

Just as I stepped out of the shower this morning, I got a text from none other than Harry Dwyer.

Some of you might remember Harry from the COVID days when we were doing themed cocktail deliveries. During our Island theme (linked below), I stumbled across his YouTube channel just as he was setting off on a 1,700-mile loop of mainland Britain. He left London, headed all the way up and around Scotland, and then made his way back home again.

When he finally returned to London, I popped over and was pressed into service as a bartender for his welcome home event, or as the English call it, his "do."

Anyway, Harry was on his way back from Greece today, towing his now very famous RIB, Goodwin. And I still can't quite believe it, but without a moment's hesitation, he agreed to swing by the Eel and park Goodwin outside for photo opportunities and a bit of cheeky PR ahead of The Commodore's Cocktail Harbor Band's very appropriately titled Yacht Rock Regatta this Friday.

Honestly, it's pretty amazing. Most people would understandably say they'd love to stop but need to keep moving. Boat to tow. Miles to cover. You know how it goes.

But not Harry, Eddie, and Chris.

True heroes of the ridiculous.

Friends of the Eel.

Exactly the sort of people I'll never stop celebrating.

Here's to smooth seas and a safe journey home, my friends. And thank you for making the Eel a small part of your epic story.
