Did you know that the story of breadsticks actually began in America?
When the traditional German pretzel crossed the Atlantic, it was reshaped into simple sticks — the famous loop was simply left out.
In 1935, Klaus Bahlsen’s biscuit factory in Hanover adopted the idea and began producing salted, stick-shaped snacks called “Salzletten,” which were originally sold in red boxes.
In 1972, the Nógrádi cooperative in Hungary started producing the predecessors of today’s famous Nógrádi sticks based on an Austrian recipe.
Hard to imagine, but nowadays around 1,000–1,200 tons of dough are used every year, resulting in more than 10 million packs being produced annually!
Leave a like if you’d love to have a pack right now! 😋🥨
