Introducing Kawabi. Founded by Aaron and Irisa Na-Chan Kawabi, the New York-based studio explores inheritance, identity, and the transmission of form across cultures through craft.
Working with paper and traditional joinery techniques, Kawabi reinterprets familiar objects through a contemporary approach. Structure is achieved through precise construction without visible hardware, allowing light, material, and form to become closely interconnected.
Rooted in both Eastern and Western craft traditions, their work moves between past and present, allowing cultural references to be translated into contemporary forms.

Introducing Yukari Hotta.
Yukari Hotta is a ceramic artist born in Tokyo and based in Copenhagen. Working in stoneware, she creates vessels and sculptural forms that appear fluid and organic.
Her practice explores softness, tactility, and the relationship between object, hand and space. Surfaces retain the imprint of the hand, where fingerprints and subtle irregularities become part of the final expression. Rather than pursuing perfection, her work embraces character, allowing each piece to develop its own presence.
Inspired by natural forms, Yukari Hotta transforms clay into forms that invite touch, contemplation and close observation.

Introducing Fili
Julie Villamonte is a weaver and designer based in Milan, originally from the Bicol region of the Philippines, where she learned traditional weaving techniques passed down through generations of women makers.
Working under the name Fili, she creates sculptural objects in natural fibres such as abaca and rattan. For the works at Galleri Sonja, hand-collected stones from the Danish landscape are carefully woven into each piece, creating a dialogue between material, place and craft.
Rooted in traditions from both the Philippines and Italy, her practice combines technical precision with an intuitive approach to making. Through simple gestures and natural materials, everyday stones are transformed into tactile objects that sit between function and sculpture.

A closer look inside Sara Martinsen’s atelier.
Working between art and material research, Sara’s practice begins with the material itself. For Rodfæstet, wild grass harvested on Bornholm is carefully studied for its colour, structure and tactile qualities before becoming part of a work. Through observation and craft, familiar materials are given new attention, revealing the value of what is often overlooked.

Introducing Bertel Bjerre. Working from his studio on the northern coast of Zealand, Bertel Bjerre creates stoneware shaped by decades of artistic and design experience. His practice embraces the balance between intention and chance, combining different clay bodies to reveal spontaneous patterns and assembling larger vessels from cast and hand-built elements. Inspired by the textures and colours of the surrounding landscape, his work honours the natural qualities of clay, where surface, material and process remain at the centre of each piece.

We are delighted to present a collaboration between Galleri Sonja and Brücke 49.
From Bornholm to Vals, two places shaped by nature, craftsmanship and a shared appreciation for thoughtful design. Together, we have curated a selection of objects from each other’s collections, creating a dialogue between two places connected through craft.

Thank you for being part of Connected: A Dialogue Between Nature and Craft.

It was a pleasure to welcome both local and international guests throughout 3daysofdesign, to share conversations around craft and materiality, and to gather for our Hedestrik event, tea ceremonies and cake servings. Thank you to everyone who visited and made the exhibition such a memorable experience.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped bring the exhibition to life.
