What a weekend! Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend was in town, and we welcomed a lot of people and beers through our doors. We had Matthias from talking us through the history of smoked beers, along with two specials on tap. We had cask ale on hand pull on Friday and Saturday night (which lasted a few hours). Then on Saturday we put the big screen on and watched the Champions League final with not a seat left in the house. Thanks to for organising the tenth successful festival and cheers to everyone who made their way over to Pudel before and after the beers. Cheers!

Very happy to continue our long-distance relationship with even if it’s only once a year. Every Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend, we jump on the pallets that bring over, giving TCBW guests the chance to try proper cask ale at Pudel Baar. This year we’re pairing them up with to offer you a beer from each brewery over the weekend.

It might be meat and drink for the people visiting from the UK, but for those coming from countries where cask is rare — or non-existent — it’s a chance to experience something genuinely unique.

Friday from 17:00

1. Verdant — Miniature Cymbals — Pale Ale — 3.4% ABV
2. Thornbridge — Crackendale — Citra Pale Ale — 5.2% ABV

Saturday from 14:00

1. Verdant — Penpol — Hoppy Pale Ale — 3.8% ABV
2. Thornbridge — AM:PM — Session IPA — 4.5% ABV

And don’t forget the two beers being presented and discussed by the brewer on Saturday afternoon, alongside a rotating selection of local keg beers on tap.

Something for all tastes. See you over the weekend.

It’s Tallinn Craft Beard Weekend, and the City is full of beer drinkers looking for something to do before and after the festival starts.

On Saturday the 30th at 14:30, We’ve got Matthias Trum, the 6th generation owner and brewmaster of the famous Bamburg brewery Schlenkerla.

The brewery is steeped in history, as you’d expect from a place that first started producing beer in 1387.

We’ll have two unique beers on tap:

Aecht Schlenkerla Weichsel.

For Aecht Schlenkerla Weichsel red lager, the malt is dried over fire with high-quality cherry wood (not over beech wood fire as with classic smoked beer). In contrast to the spicy beech-smoked malt, the cherry wood smoked malt has a fruity, almost sweet smoke aroma and provides a copper-red color in the glass. The finest aroma hops add berry notes to the multi-layered smoke flavor. With 4.6% abv, Aecht Schlenkerla Weichsel is a full-bodied, pleasantly quaffable beer.

Aecht Schlenkerla Erle Shwarzbier.

For Aecht Schlenkerla Erle black lager, very special smoked malt is used. This is not dried over beech wood fire, as is usually the case, but over fire made of alder wood. The alder smoked malt brings a fine, complex smoky flavor to the beer – less strong and spicy than in classic smoked beer. A high roasted malt content provides a pronounced roasted aroma and the dark, almost black color. At 4.2% abv, Aecht Schlenkerla Erle has slightly less alcohol, but is strong in flavor.

We’ll start pouring and talking from 14:30 - plenty of time to lose your hangover and work on a new one. We’ve got one keg of each, so when it’s gone it’s gone. Some bottles in the fridge too.

Today is national Pinot Grigio day. We’ve got a very drinkable PG from at a very drinkable price per bottle and glass. “IL Polpo”, the Octopus, is full of zesty citrus notes, green apple and plump peaches, all tied together with some very sensible acidity. The octopus on the label, reflects the indigenous population which frequents the Adriatic Sea, which is just 10km from the winery. This is a new project for Pudel - we bring these wines directly to Tallinn ourselves. We’ve got Pinot Grigio, Pecorino, Sangiovese and Montepulciano. Come and give them a try.

We’ve added even more underwear to the drinkers’ terrace. Bright, cheerful, and slightly surreal, these garments tell a story from an anthropological perspective: once eagerly bought to impress, empower, or excite, they eventually outlived their original purpose/partner/owner and found a second life above our heads at Pudel Baar. Desires once burning hot eventually grew cold, but are warming up again now that the weather is beginning a new relationship with us all.

It’s about time someone invented a Harry Potter-style spell so we could hear these bras and pants tell their stories. Now that would make for a memorable evening on the terrace.

Until then, let’s take comfort in the fact that these mystery garments — origins unknown — are now living their best lives in full, exposed glory, decorating what is possibly one of the most photographed terraces in Tallinn.
