From the desk of the MD
A New Chapter in My Journey: Bridging the Gap between Big Corporations and Small-Scale Agriculture

I have spent my entire career in the food and beverage industry. I started my education as a food and agronomy engineer, working with large multinational companies for over 40 years. I recently decided to embark on a new adventure: developing AS Food internationally alongside Victor Nono.

What struck me most throughout my career was the vast gap between the classic industrial setup of large corporations and the real needs of small-scale agriculture. This realization convinced me that AS Food has a unique and essential role to play in bridging this gap by empowering small farmers to transform their produce and capture a greater share of the value added in the food value chain.

At this stage with AS Food being a startup, we are blessed with a small dedicated team committed to making a big impact in the near future. Here, leadership means listening, supporting, guiding, and sometimes nudging different stakeholders, while also managing day-to-day activities that will one day be delegated to a larger structure. In this dynamic environment, I am inspired daily by Victor’s dedication as our President. His attention to detail, care for our team, and unwavering focus on the bigger picture make working with him an absolute pleasure. His enthusiasm is truly infectious!

Looking at the global trends in the agriculture sector, we see the same challenges everywhere:

Climate change is making agricultural yields more volatile .
Urbanization in developing countries is driving demand for marketable agricultural products, with fewer farmers and more urban consumers.
The need for convenience is increasing demand for shelf-stable, ready-to-use food products.
Empowering rural populations through sustainable, self-financed activities that generate cash income is the way forward — not donations or short-term programs.
AS Food offers a compelling solution to address these evolving agricultural needs where it matters most. With our customizable solutions adaptable to various crops and environments, I am confident that we will make a significant impact in this field.

Here’s to making a difference where it counts!

From Village Fields to Empowering Farmers: My Journey in Agribusiness

My friends and relatives are often amazed at my resilience and obstinacy with AS-Food International. The reason for this obstinacy is to be found, as this post reveals, in my experience as the young son of small farmers.

Growing up in Manengole, Cameroun, farming was lifeblood. My mom lovingly tended a vegetable garden that provided fresh food for our table, while my dad's livelihood depended on his coffee crops. Weekends and school breaks were spent on the farm – a reality shared by many families.

But this wasn't just hard work; it was a harsh reality. Seeing friends drop out of school due to financial constraints was heartbreaking. Farmers struggled to make ends meet, and relying solely on agriculture wasn't enough. My dad, for instance, also ran a grocery shop to supplement our income.

This ignited a passion within me. I yearned to become an agricultural engineer – to learn best practices and empower farmers in my village. Today, I have embarked on that mission.

My Journey to Empowering Rural Farmers:

Maximizing Coffee Value: My initial project focused on helping coffee farmers increase their crop value. I explored ways for them to harvest and process their beans within Cameroon, keeping more profits in their hands.
AS Foods: Processing Closer to Home: This led to the creation of AS Foods. Our Mobile food waste reduction plant aims solely to process farm produce ( Fruits and Vegetables) closer to farms, ensuring fair trade practices and maximizing value for farmers.
My journey has just begun. I'm dedicated to improving the lives of rural farmers across communities.

What are your thoughts on empowering farmers or your community? Share your experiences in the comments!

Enhancing B2B Economic: Collaboration between Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Ivory Coast

A days ago, AS Food was honored to participate in the Journée Economiquee meeting between Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (France) and Ivory Coast. This important gathering brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing food processing efficiency and achieving food security.
A central theme emerged – the crucial role of adaptable food processing plants. The focus was on increasing the transformation rate of agricultural products in Ivory Coast from 30% to 50% by 2030, alongside fostering local food production and market gardening. The CTCPA - Centre Technique Agroalimentaire experts emphasized the value of starting with smaller-scale plants, allowing producers to gradually scale up as their businesses flourish. This prudent approach minimizes risks associated with financial strain and operational setbacks – a concept that aligns perfectly with AS Food's philosophy.
Our commitment to sustainability is embodied in our mobile food waste reduction plants. These innovative units boast exceptional flexibility, enabling them to move seamlessly between harvest zones within a country. This not only optimizes efficiency but also significantly reduces food waste.
Looking ahead, AS Food is energized by the prospect of contributing to the advancement of food processing capabilities. We are dedicated to fostering a future of sustainable growth through collaboration and innovation.

Investing in the Future: Transforming Agriculture through Processing in Africa

The Untapped Potential

Africa is home to over 60% of the world's arable land, yet it remains a net importer of food. This paradox highlights a significant opportunity for growth through the processing of agricultural products. By investing in our food waste reduction plant, we can transform raw agricultural produce into high-value goods, reducing post-harvest losses and increasing marketability.

Economic Impact

The processing of agricultural products can substantially boost the African economy. Here’s how:

Job Creation:Establishing processing plants creates employment opportunities, particularly in rural areas, reducing poverty and driving community development.
Increased Incomes:Farmers can benefit from fair trade prices for their produce, as processed goods typically command better market prices than raw commodities.
Export Potential:With enhanced processing capabilities, African countries can move up the value chain, exporting finished goods rather than raw materials, leading to improved trade balances and stronger economies.

Empowering Change

At AS Food, we are leveraging cutting-edge technology to optimize the processing of agricultural products. In Ivory Coast, our food waste reduction plant has been deployed to empower small farmers by offering a stable market for their produce, significantly reducing post harvest losses. We plan to expand across Africa.. Our food waste reduction plant ensures efficiency, quality, and sustainability. Key innovations include:

Advanced Preservation Techniques: Using modern preservation methods to extend the shelf life of perishable goods.
Sustainable Practices: Implementing eco-friendly processing methods that minimize waste and reduce environmental impact such as valorizing residues.
