FACTURES ÉLECTRONIQUES

Electronic invoicing is becoming mandatory in France because the government wants to modernise invoicing, reduce VAT fraud, improve invoice tracking and make exchanges between businesses more secure. It will apply to all businesses, including small companies and micro-businesses, even if they only have a few clients, because the rule is based on the type of business, not the number of customers or invoices issued.

The timetable is:

1 September 2026: all businesses must be able to receive electronic invoices. Large companies and medium-sized companies must also start issuing electronic invoices.
1 September 2027: small businesses, SMEs and micro-businesses must also issue electronic invoices.
A normal PDF sent by email will no longer be considered a compliant electronic invoice; invoices will need to go through an approved platform and use the required electronic format.

For a small business, the practical step is to check that your invoicing/accounting software will be compatible before the deadline.
