GM Diaries | Chapter One 📖
In our new GM Diaries series, we're sitting down with the General Managers behind our hotels to learn more about their leadership journeys, what inspires them, and the people-first approach that drives our teams every day.
First up is Ryan Anderson, Hotel Manager at Station Hotel Aberdeen.
Having been part of Cairn Hotel Group for the past one-and-a-half years, and previously spending time with the business at Holiday Inn Darlington A1 Scotch Corner, Ryan says the most rewarding part of his role is seeing both the hotel and his team grow together.
His team describe his leadership style as fair, hands-on and approachable - creating an environment where people feel supported to succeed. Team achievements are celebrated through shout-outs and team celebration lunches, recognising everyone's contribution. 🫶🏻
The best career advice he's ever received?
"Be yourself and never change who you are because someone else wants you to."
It's a mindset that has helped shape Ryan's leadership style and the positive culture he's built within the hotel.
When it comes to guest experience, Ryan believes it's the little details that make the biggest impact - a warm, friendly check-in and ensuring every guest walks into a room that looks immaculate and smells fresh.
One of his proudest achievements has been creating a strong team culture while helping to increase guest satisfaction scores and delivering the highest revenue the hotel has ever seen.
His most memorable guest request?
A guest once asked if they could bring their pet llama to stay at the hotel (yes, seriously)! 🦙
And if he could swap departments for a day? HR.
"I'd love to gain a better understanding of that side of the business."
Stay tuned for the next chapter of GM Diaries as we continue to meet the people leading our hotels across the Cairn Hotel Group portfolio.
