We've never told anyone how we make this. Until now. πŸ™

Most people assume sweet and sour sauce comes from a jar. A mixture of this and that, heated up, poured over. Job done. Ours doesn't.

When my father Ronald took over this kitchen, the previous owner passed down one recipe above everything else. The sweet and sour sauce. It came with a technique most people would never bother with β€” frying the vegetables first, slowly πŸ”₯, until the aroma builds properly.

Only then does the stewing begin. Hours, not minutes ⏳, with our house blend seasoning that has never been written down and has never left this kitchen.

Bobby has refined it over 25 years. His sons grew up eating it. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³ It is the dish that tells the story of this family more than any other.

You won't taste the difference because you can analyse it. You'll taste the difference because something in it just feels right. ❀️That's 27 years of one family, one kitchen, one sauce.

My dad started Man's Chinese in 1998. I grew up watching him in this kitchen learning what it actually means to care about what you put on a plate. He's retired now, but everything we still do here started with him.

This Sunday, treat your dad to a proper feast without the restaurant price tag.

Crispy Aromatic Duck. Sticky Spare Ribs. Sweet & Sour Chicken. Special Fried Rice. House Chow Mein. The dishes he'll actually want, made fresh, ready from 5pm.

Man's Chinese is open again on Alton High Street and if you've been waiting, tonight is the night.

A Chinese place making Korean food?

We hear you. We thought you might say that. πŸ˜„

Here's something most people don't know. Seoul and Beijing are less than 1,000 kilometres apart, closer than London is to Barcelona. Chinese and Korean cuisines have been sharing ingredients, techniques and recipes for centuries. Bobby grew up cooking across both in a Hong Kong kitchen. That's just what you do when you're neighbours.

So here it is. πŸ”₯

Rich house-made kimchi broth. Chopped ham, sausage, creamy cheese, all simmered together until the heat builds into something completely addictive.
It sounds like a lot. It tastes like the most comforting bowl you've had all week.

We've been making it quietly on Alton High Street for years. Most people didn't know.
