Well well…
£3,523 on Cadbury Gifts Direct… Taxpayers Are Entitled to an Explanation
Looking through Barnsley Council’s procurement card spending, one item immediately caught my attention.
Around £3,523 was spent with Cadbury Gifts Direct, with several transactions appearing to have been made on or around the same day.
To be absolutely clear, this does not prove anything improper. There may be a perfectly legitimate explanation.
However, public money should always be open to public scrutiny, and residents are entitled to ask questions such as:
* What were these purchases for?
* Which council department authorised them?
* Who received the gifts?
* Was this expenditure in line with the council’s procurement policy?
* How does this represent value for money for Barnsley’s taxpayers?
If there is a straightforward explanation, then it should be easy to provide one.
Transparency isn’t about making accusations. It’s about building public confidence by ensuring taxpayers can see how their money is being spent.
