Dear friends,
We are truly sad to announce that yesterday we ceased trading. We have for some months been trying to find a way forward for the cafe that would respond to the demands of the world as we find it now, but we ran out of time, and had to come in to land a little sooner and more abruptly than we were expecting.
What remains is the almost impossible task of finding words that will do justice to the debt of gratitude that is owed to you all - customers who have become friends, and dear friends who have become invaluable colleagues - for the very real joy and trials of the journey these past four years.
The dream when we opened was that the cafe would be a space where we could serve people a tea or coffee with a smile, so that anyone would know they are welcome any time; but our remarkable reality was to discover a community that has generously and wholeheartedly welcomed us, and served us. So thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, and coffee mugs.
There are currently no tables or chairs, no fridges or freezers, and alas, no coffee machine. They will hopefully be sold to good homes to cover debts that we have not been able to meet. But the cafe of course, was never the stuff that was in it, but the people. And you - we - are all still here, which is pretty awesome. Even if it is minus the coffee and furniture.
But like any good film that feels as though it may have ended too soon, we leave with the hope of a sequel. Should this come to pass it will likely be different in every way, except the one that matters: community. If you are interested in a possible next chapter, please watch this space.��
Finally, we opened with a ‘Big Hello’ in December 2019, and we’d like to close with a ‘Little Good-Bye For Now, Maybe’. We need to have a clean out and scrub down first, but if you fancy a BYO toast for the sake of nostalgia, closure, friendship and fun, then we’ll post a date soon.
And really finally: yes, Bella, who is sat quietly next to me as I type this, is still available for hugs.
